About You:

You are a collaborative, impact-focused problem solver who wants to be part of a dynamic team dedicated to creating and commercializing novel approaches to global challenges in healthcare and sustainability. You want the freedom to explore, to push the boundaries of what is possible, and to use your ambition to tackle challenging projects in a fast-paced, industry-focused environment without a lot of administrative hurdles. You have strong electrical design, fabrication and test experience along with experience in system integration. You are hands-on and possess a broad range of design and prototyping skills that cross multiple engineering disciplines. You enjoy working with diverse groups of people and leveraging your expertise to create innovations that can change the world. 

About the Role:

We are looking for an innovative engineer with significant expertise in electrical and systems engineering to join our advanced technology team. Reporting to the Lead Staff Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting and driving a variety of device efforts across the institute. As a part of our Advanced Technology Team, you will be exposed to many different technologies in areas ranging from therapeutics and diagnostics to synthetic biology and materials science, with the goal to identify new product solutions and the unique opportunity to follow your passion either at the Institute or as a future co-founder of a Wyss start-up.


Job-Specific Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

  • Develop, fabricate, and test custom printed circuit boards to support multidisciplinary diagnostic and therapeutic device efforts.
  • Program macro and micro systems to integrate electrical, mechanical, and computer components.
  • Integrate sensors and actuators into larger systems for process automation and dataflow integration.
  • Write research proposals, reports, patent applications, presentations and publications, providing critical data, figures, or information for grant and patent submissions.
  • Work with other team members to establish and manage external collaborations in pursuit of the Institute’s entrepreneurial mission.
  • Mentor junior scientists and technicians.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.

Basic Qualifications

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in electrical, systems, or related engineering field required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical device design, fabrication, test or related experience required. 

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with firmware and software, system integration and sensors required.
  • Product development, project management and process automation experience preferred.
  • Altium and/or Eagle electrical design software experience desired.
  • Mechanical design, fabrication, and microfluidic systems experience preferred. 

Working Conditions

This position will be based on our campus in Boston, MA and will require on-campus presence. Subject to business needs, the Wyss Institute generally supports flexible work arrangements.
