POSITION: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has multiple openings for an Electrical Engineer 3 in Berkeley, CA.


Duties: Perform engineering design for electrical systems and provide owners engineer services for designs performed by third party engineers. Act as ultimate system owner for electrical equipment and material specification. Review conceptual design and identify technical and financial risks. Suggest alternative solution which mitigates risks. Design and review electrical deliverables: Single line diagram, panel schedule, grounding drawing, underground conduit drawing, power plan, lighting layout, and area classification drawing. Review electrical deliverables with respect to code compliances and ensure every design maintains the highest level of quality. Simulate and analyze electrical engineering study (short circuit study, load flow analysis, arc flash study). Develop and improve project workflows and standards to ensure each design is consistently excellent. Participate in on field construction walks by serving as the point of contact for technical questions and real-time issue resolution. Interface with external engineering and construction firms during bid and project execution phases as needed to ensure that design and specifications meet Engineering Standards.

Benefits: This full salary range of this position is between $113,088 to $190,800 per year depending upon candidate's full skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.


Requirements: Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related field and 5 years of progressive, post baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in an engineering-related occupation. Alternatively, employer will accept a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or in an engineering-related occupation.

Position requires:
1. Ability to design electrical systems that conform to the National Electrical Code (NEC / NFPA 70) and
relevant University design specifications;
2. Proficient in performing engineering calculations and modeling in a computer programs such as: SKM
PTW, EasyPower, or ETAP;
3. Experience in NFPA 70E to perform arc flash hazard calculations;
4. Performing design reviews for conformance to NFPA 70;
5. Performing reviews of submittals and respond to RFIs;
6. Assess and develop Owners Project Requirements and track requirement execution throughout the stages
of the design process; and
7. Write and develop technical specifications for electrical installations.
