Position Summary:
 
Located within the Student and Academic Services Division of UC Irvine’s Office of Information Technology (OIT), the Educational Technology and Student Success Services (ETS3) team supports and administers the Canvas learning management system. We also extend it by reviewing and integrating third-party educational technology tools. Finally, we administer and support a fleet of homegrown educational technology and student success tools.
 
Under the general supervision of the Manager, User and Product Operations the Education Technology Specialist will serve as the primary technical administrator for UC Irvine’s learning management system and ecosystem of educational technology and student success tools. Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced learning management systems professional to coordinate instructional technology services and delivery of customer service and technical support and troubleshooting to UCI’s faculty, staff, and student population for UCI’s educational technology ecosystem (including both vendor and homegrown tools). Leverages expertise to respond appropriately to novel questions and requests for configuration, evaluating and reporting on potential options and their risk. Examines technical, system, service delivery and / or business processes for efficiency and effectiveness. Reports and recommends changes. Develops and delivers group and one-on-one training to departments for the entire suite of EdTech Services (in-person & virtual). We are seeking a candidate who is adventurous and embraces unfamiliar situations, such as faculty meetings or senate committees, with enthusiasm. This person will approach these experiences with a positive attitude, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and championing the effective use of the learning management system and related tools.

$31.94 - $56.75 (Hourly Rate)
 
Required:
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience administering a learning management system in an educational environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Thorough understanding of both the instructional and administrative features of a major vendor learning management system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, D2L) and ability to use this information to troubleshoot the most complex systems and provide friendly, empathetic support to end-users. 
  • Demonstrated familiarity with other educational technology tools that are integrated with the LMS (e.g., Turnitin, Gradescope). 
  • Experience with installation, configuration, and upgrade of external tools in an LMS. 
  • Ability to assess campus or institutional needs for LMS technology products and design services to meet those needs. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others including campus stakeholders, particularly faculty, lecturers, and teaching assistants from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Thorough customer service and consultative skills to quickly assess users' technology proficiencies and identify and implement required technology solutions. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. 
  • Skills to determine priorities based on knowledge of work area. 
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. 
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. 
  • Excellent organizational abilities and project management skills. 
  • Ability to independently manage complex tasks with competing demands for time and resources.
     

Preferred:
  • Awareness of current trends and best practices in educational technology and online learning. 
  • Ability to develop effective training materials (e.g., workshops, webinars, tutorials, guides, videos) tailored to different audiences (instructors, students, staff). Knowledge of computer, media, and networking technology.
