A part of the Texas A&M University Health Science Center, Texas A&M School of Dentistry  in Dallas was founded in 1905 and is a nationally recognized center for oral health sciences education, research, specialized patient care and continuing dental education. What you need to know  


Proposed Minimum Salary: $40,000 annually


Work Schedule/Location: This is an on-site role with a typical schedule of Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of experience in an educational support, student success or academic advising role within higher education.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in applicable field.

  • Experience in integration of current and emerging technologies (i.e., streaming media, multimedia, course management systems, communication tools, etc.) in an academic environment.

  • Demonstrates the ability to interact positively with TAMU SOD’s DDS and DH students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders.



Essential Duties/Tasks

COE Grant and Department Support:

  • Coordinates Learning Strategies sessions in Summer Predental Enrichment Program (SPEP) 10/11, SPEP 12, SPEP Collegiate I, SPEP Collegiate II, PBP I and PBP II.

  • Identifies and serves as coordinator for clinical experiences for SPEP 12, SPEP Collegiate I, and SPEP Collegiate II to promote career awareness.

  • Assists Director of SPEP Collegiate I and SPEP Collegiate II Programs.

  • Assists in the design, presentation, and evaluation of innovative instructional programs within department curriculum.

  • Supports COE dental students throughout their DDS curriculum.

  • Prioritizes and accomplishes COE grant annual and quarterly goals.

  • Coordinates and prepares materials for the COE grant’s reapplication process.

  • Assists in the planning for the annual COE Steering Committee meeting, which includes preparing presentations evaluating instructional programs and curriculum.

  • Interacts positively with TAMU SOD’s DDS and DH students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders.

  • Cultivates a high-performing and fiscally responsible workplace.

Academic Advising:

  • Advises and mentors students for academic success.

  • Identifies students having academic difficulties and develops communication best practices to encourage student academic improvement.

  • Designs, presents, and evaluates innovative instructional programs and curriculum on effective strategies considering the varying types of learning styles.

  • Acknowledges student academic improvement either verbally or in writing or email.

Peer Tutoring Program:

  • Supervises 30+ peer tutors.

  • Organizes and coordinates program recruitment efforts.

  • Manages hiring completion, training completion, and timesheets of DDS and DH peer tutors within Workday.

  • Helps track budget allocation for tutors, including additional services with the finance department.

  • Manages program by solicitating nominations, recruiting, and training tutors.

  • Manages performance and cultivates a positive and supportive work environment.

Exam Accommodations:

  • Coordinates and schedules exams/facilities/rooms.

  • Assists with proctoring exams (including make up exams due to excused absences) for accommodation students.

  • Maintains an up-to-date accommodations test schedule each semester.

  • Prepares information on available resources for incoming students.

Student Success Team (SST):

  • Records and tracks academic performance of DDS students and DH students.

  • Oversee planning and provides summary reporting of students’ performance a minimum of twice per semester.

  • Liaises closely with DDS and DH students’ course directors to identify problems situations early.

  • Communicates with students about academic progress (at-risk or improvements) by recording and tracking academic performance effectively.

  • Helps ensure the success and retention of SOD’s DDS and DH students.
