Job Summary/Basic Function:

To continue the development of education and outreach programs creating pathways into the semiconductor industry.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position. This position is anticipated to continue until July 2026. Employment for this position is contingent upon the continuation of grant funding.

Department Overview:

The Institute for Microelectronics Education and Research (MER) works with regional industry to expand microelectronic and semiconductor supply chains and capacity. Targeted investments prepare students for careers related to microelectronics, and provide opportunities for them to work closely with faculty on vital research.

Level Scope:

Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training. Typically hold a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Essential Functions:

95% of time the Educational Specialist must:

  • Provide participants information about postsecondary schools and/or programs; career information and referrals to post-secondary school career advisors if needed.
  • Under direction of the project manager, develop education and outreach opportunities to be offered under the program.
  • Lead professional development events for K-12, post-secondary, and informal educators.
  • Develop and coordinate a series of special topic workshops as directed by grant or project director.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with K-12, postsecondary institutions, and other organizations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records regarding participants’ private information. 
  • Provide information as needed to students regarding postsecondary opportunities.
  • Maintain and administer current education programming including assisting with summer camps
  • Provide tours to the community on an as needed basis. Seek out new tour opportunities to help spread the mission of the grant. 
  • Assist in establishing and developing comprehensive internship programs.
  • Responsible for assisting web based marketing and communication materials, including website, social media, newsletter, and other modalities.
  • Develop, distribute and track all marketing needs for education and outreach programs.

5% of time the Educational Specialist must:

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Experience teaching STEM content in formal and informal settings.
  • Computer skills, including Word, Excel, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and general office skills.
  • Problem-solving and excellent customer relations ability. 
  • Strong public relations skills.
  • Knowledge of marketing and promotion. 
  • Independent decision-making and critical thinking skills. 
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and collaborate with others 
  • Must have the skills to communicate effectively and follow through with priorities. 
  • Knowledge of semiconductor and microelectronic concepts is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years' relevant experience.
  • Previous experience working with low-income participants.
  • Background in curriculum design related to STEM topics.
  • Bilingual / bicultural plus or / experience working with multicultural populations.
Salary and Benefits:

$52,000-58,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
