Job Purpose:  Support the Assistant Vice President of Capital Planning & Space Management (CPSM) and other Institute personnel in campus planning. Will have specific responsibility for Sector Plan development and/or Landscape Master Plan refinements. Responsible for strategic planning for new and existing projects, communicating with campus and administrative unit (client) personnel on current and potential projects, coordinating with Facilities Design & Construction personnel to provide information on projects, technical report writing, and project budgeting and contract negotiation. Responsibilities may include landscape design, preparation of drawings, assisting in implementing the ADA Transition Plan, participation in environmental safety compliance discussions, and coordinating logistical (move) management associated with major projects.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Develop campus sector plans and/or promote and refine campus landscape master plan, in coordination with stakeholders.
  • Develop conceptual programs and budgets for campus capital projects.
  • Develop pre-programming documents and information for decision-making suggestions to internal clients.
  • Develop conceptual programmatic requirements for proposed design and construction initiatives.
  • Assist private consultants and Facilities project managers on potential space-related initiatives.
  • Participate on on-going construction-related updated and status meetings.
  • Mentor and work with Georgia Tech students in campus planning and design projects.
  • Represent the Institute in community and governmental organizations as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Education:  Bachelor's degree in Planning, Business, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Work Experience: Seven or more years of related experience with progressive career responsibilities.
  • Certifications: N/A
  • Skills:  Working knowledge of land planning, urban planning and design, campus planning, environmental sciences with a broad base of interest and understanding the multi-faceted aspects of sustainability. Ability to represent programmatic spatial intent graphically. Ability to gather and analyze data and communicate the impact of such data. Ability to work successfully in a collaborative team environment, excellent listening skills, effective verbal and written communications skills, ability to graphically represent programmatic spatial intent; ability to understand, communicate and interpret Georgia Tech’s strategic goals and aspirations internally and to outside consultants in compliance with the overall campus master plan.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred Education: N/A
  • Preferred Work Experience:  Ten years job related experience.
  • Preferred Certifications:  License to practice as an Architect, Engineer, Landscape Architect, AICP or equivalent, LEED accreditation professional or other sustainability certification.
  • Preferred Skills:  Ability to give presentations as requested, participate in quarterly meetings of the Planning & Design Commission, experience with AutoCAD, Revit, GIS and computer software applications, ability to update our Campus Tree Inventory database.

Impact & Influence:  This position will interact on a consistent basis with: Leadership and management in Administration and Finance (A&F), CPSM, Facilities, academic/research unit directors, other GT and community organizations, faculty, staff, students, and outside professional consultants. Will periodically interact with the Executive Leadership Team. This position typically will advise and counsel: Leadership and management in A&F and CPSM. This position will supervise: May supervise graduate student and student workers on a project-specific basis.
