What We Want

The Educational Consultant (formerly Instructional Consultant) will support faculty in their application of digital learning technologies, strategies, and best practices that support the academic mission of the College of Arts and Sciences. In this role, the Educational Consultant will work directly with faculty to understand pedagogical and curricular needs as a precursor to the digital learning technologies, strategies, and best practices applied to courses, with a commitment to meeting the needs of students across Texas A&M University. The Educational Consultant will work with faculty who deliver instruction across different teaching modalities in the College to enhance and improve instruction through the application of the digital learning environment. The Educational Consultant will collaborate in the design and implementation of innovative training opportunities for course instructors within the College of Arts & Sciences, as well as tracks and assess outcomes from training offerings to continuously improve delivery. The Educational Consultant will work with data produced by the digital learning environment to inform decisions on third-party tools, student success, and faculty development. This position will particularly support the College of Arts and Sciences in their role as the team of Academic Liaisons who collaborate with the university’s central units that support digital learning.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experiences.

Location: This position may require working in various locations on and off campus to meet with departments or groups as needed or assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Three years of related experience in instructional consultation

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to relate well and communicate with a variety of students

  • Knowledge of assessment of student learning outcomes

  • Proficiency in engaging adult learners in training, workshops, and professional development focused on learning technologies

  • Knowledge of a learning management system and associated third-party tools in a contemporary digital learning environment

  • Ability to track metrics and apply assessment outcomes in a continuous improvement model

  • Skilled in writing, proofreading, and editing instructional materials

  • Understanding of learning analytics

  • Understanding of compliance measures for security, accessibility, and the protection of student data in the digital learning environment

  • Ability to troubleshoot and support faculty’s use of learning technologies

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Learning and Literacy, Higher Education, or other related field.

  • Experience in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, faculty development, workshop facilitation, and engaging adult learners

  • Demonstrated experience in meeting the needs of faculty and students

  • Experience with using contemporary technologies in an integrated digital learning environment

  • Experience with learning theory, pedagogical practices, and alternative assessment strategies across many disciplines

  • Experience in evaluating effectiveness of pedogeological best practices

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with faculty in a consultative and training capacity

  • Demonstrated creativity, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of UX/UI design in courses

  • Proficiency in Universal Design for Learning principles

  • Understanding key performance indicators of student success

  • Proficiency in Canvas learning management system and associated third-party tools (Google, Zoom, Microsoft)

Responsibilities:

  • Faculty Support: Works collaboratively with a team of instructional designers and multimedia specialists supporting digital learning. Contributes to College-wide training programs and support services. Works in service to faculty engagement goals and measures. Plans and executes faculty training opportunities with the university’s central units that support the digital learning environment. Completes special projects related to the digital learning environment.

  • University Academic Liaisons: Represents the College of Arts and Sciences as an Academic Liaison. Supports the College of Arts and Sciences in areas identified by the central administration as responsibilities of an Academic Liaison. In collaboration with staff and faculty and in compliance with university standards, explores, evaluates, and supports learning technologies that integrate into the digital learning environment.

  • Departmental Liaison – Collaboration and Coordination: Collaborates across all ArtSci departments to promote the adoption of the digital learning environment. Maintains a training curriculum aligned with centralized training that meets the needs of ArtSci faculty. Coordinates training opportunities and disseminates communication. Liaises with departmental leadership to support reviews of quality, accessibility, best practices, and technologies. Communicates changes and updates to the digital learning environment. Coordinates and collates stakeholder insights and data for the Assistant/Associate Dean.

  • Data Analytics: Performs functional analysis for the College of Arts & Sciences use of the digital learning environment and makes data-driven recommendations to College-level leadership. Assists with tracking relevant data and generates reports. Defines, collects, analyzes, reviews, and documents dimensions of the digital learning using a data taxonomy. Assesses and analyzes end-user needs through direct interaction. Reviews peer institution best practices and makes recommendations to improve the uptake and use of the digital learning environment. Understands, researches, and interprets functional requirements and regulations, and formulates processes and workflows to meet these requirements and regulations. Supports the experimentation and evaluation of new learning technologies to enhance teaching and learning and performs other duties as assigned.
