Description of Work Unit
The Department of Soil and Crop Sciences is focused on education, research, and outreach to solve the world’s most pressing food production issues and crucial matters about Earth, its ecosystems, and their services. Our faculty and staff apply research-based solutions to benefit Colorado and the world. We offer academic programs to prepare students to address national and global crop production, sustainability, and environmental quality challenges such as waste management, water quality, and reclamation of drastically disturbed lands. There are numerous opportunities for students to be involved in cutting edge research related to global food production and ecosystem function and protection.
Position Summary
The Department of Soil and Crop Sciences seeks an Education Research Associate to join a multi-disciplinary team coordinating the Upskilling Program for the College of Agricultural Sciences at CSU. The Upskilling Program is an innovative unit focused on exploration and development of new career pathways for Coloradoans through micro-credentialed courses and experiential learning opportunities. The Education Research Associate will work with the Upskilling Team to coordinate the development of micro-credentialed online curriculum, facilitate internship programs, drive program research and evaluation, and lead project communications.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Research Associate I + 3 years experience or B.A. /B.S. degree + 3 years professional experience or Master’s degree
  • Demonstrated experience with virtual education programming and learning management system platforms
  • Demonstrated experience in collecting and analyzing data using statistical analysis tools
  • Demonstrated experience in technical writing for reporting and publication purposes
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in professional communication (written, verbal, and team-building)
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and execute projects to completion
  • Occasional travel required within state. Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by employment start date
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Advanced degree(s). Majors or field of study in Social Science, Human Dimension, or an Education-related field
  • Demonstrated experience in agriculture, food systems, or related fields
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct statistical analyses for large datasets
  • Demonstrated experience with virtual delivery of formal and/or non-formal educational programs for a variety of audiences
  • Record of publication in social science or education-related research

The research associate will assist in data collection, analysis of education data, and compiling data for reporting purposes. The Research Associate will work closely with the Upskilling Research team to develop research approvals (i.e. IRB protocols), as well as develop hypothesis and testing strategies to generate educational data.

This position will work with faculty and instructional designers to design and develop online courses in targeted areas. This position will work closely with CSU Online staff members to perform quality checks of course materials prior to release.

The Research Associate will be responsible for facilitating communications among and within the Upskilling Team and stakeholders. Specific tasks include determining agendas for weekly/monthly meetings with research team members and external stakeholders.
