Directed by Dr. Eugene Lengerich, the Office for Cancer Health Equity (OCHE), Penn State Cancer Institute (PSCI), is seeking a highly motivated, full-time navigator/community health educator to help develop, manage and support cancer control and community-engaged research in central Pennsylvania (PA). Established in 2019, the OCHE fosters cancer health equity and reduced cancer burden within central PA - the PSCI catchment area - through bidirectional engagement for research, outreach and education. OCHE efforts are based in catchment area assessment; positive bidirectional engagement with strategic partners, including community-based organizations, healthcare providers, and PSCI-sponsored community advisory boards; and community-based networks of peer educators who deliver cancer education, information and support. Together, these components provide synergy and collaboration across PSCI research programs and offices to improve cancer health equity and reduce cancer burden in the catchment area. The primary purpose of this position is to develop and lead cancer control initiatives for medically under-served and vulnerable populations within central PA. Initiatives will largely be delivered through a network of patient navigators and peer educators. The person in this position will develop and tailor cancer control materials and programs; lead cancer control initiatives; train, equip, and mentor navigators and peer educators; support and foster networks of navigators and peer educators; author and co-author reports and manuscripts. Candidates must be detail-oriented and able to communicate clearly and accurately both in writing and in¬ person. The person in this positon will report to the Director and collaborate with the OCHE team of dynamic and dedicated health professionals. Competitive candidates would have substantial training and expertise in cancer-related health education; patient navigation; theory of and strategies for behavioral change; health communication; and management of volunteer workforce. The level at which this position is filled will depend upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Candidates should have a college degree in public health, bio behavioral health, nursing, social work, psychology, or related field. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
