Department Summary

The College of Education (COE) at the University of Oregon (UO) offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs to a diverse student body. The COE faculty is very diverse in research interests and specializations, with award recognition for scholarship, teaching, and service.

The Education Leaders for Oregon’s English Learners (ELOEL) Project is in the Department of Education Studies (EDST). EDST offers an undergraduate program, a master’s/teacher licensure program, and a doctoral program. The EDST licensure and degree program prepares professionals to use the best research-based practices to teach children and adult learners. The ELOEL Project is an online ESOL endorsement pathway for in-service teachers, currently in its first year with its first cohort. Starting in the summer of 2024, the ELOEL Project will provide a summer leadership institute for school administrators, as well as follow-up professional development and coaching. The Project Coordinator will work closely with EDST faculty and staff, Oregon school districts and schools, and the Oregon Department of Education, to recruit, guide, and support the success of ELOEL students. ELOEL students are supported via a 5-year federal grant from the Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA) in the US Department of Education. The grant is managed by the Center for Equity Promotion (CEQP). CEQP is part of the College of Education and is dedicated to working with communities to better understand and support the positive development of children and families, particularly those who are underserved by education, health, and social service systems.
