PATHOLOGY AND LABORATORY MED (IN-PATH-IUINA)

The Histotechnology Program, offered through the Indiana University School of Medicine, is growing and looking for an education coordinator to support our students and clinical laboratory partners. Our mission is to provide quality education using distance-learning technology and clinical training with qualifying histology laboratories. Our programs prepare learners for certification in Histotechnology and work to meet the healthcare work force needs required in histology labs nationwide. The program started in 1995 as Indiana University's first distance education program and the nation's first histotechnology distanced education program. The program has provided training for students in 49 different states within the US as well as from Canada, South Korea, St. Croix, Puerto Rico and Switzerland. 

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Assists with the development, implementation, and assessment of the program's marketing plan and exhibits at state and national meetings.
  • Collaborates with the admissions team to determine those accepted in the program.
  • In coordination with educational leadership, consults with faculty to determine curricular needs and identify gaps. 
  • Develops instructional materials for proper and safe use of histology equipment and tools. 
  • Designs curriculum for clinical liaisons to assist in teaching students course degree requirements. 
  • Develops, reviews, and manages activities that support liaisons at qualifying histology laboratories.
  • Ensures clinical liaisons have procured supplies and made them available for student practicum assignments. 
  • Fosters the online learning environment in a way that maintains respect for diverse work environments, diversity among students and focuses on student learning and equity. 
  • Supports and serves as a resource for the students as they work to accomplish professional goals. 
  • Tracks required technical skills and performance evaluation tools to ensure they are completed for each student. 
  • Grades didactic and technical product using histologic theory and procedures. 
  • Ensures that teaching strategies engage students in the online environment. Provides timely and consistent feedback and maintain accurate records.
  • Engages collaboratively with the Program Director to assess relevant course and program data. Identifies areas for courses and program improvement. Implements and evaluates course updates.
  • Ensures and monitors compliance with internal and external policies and accreditation requirements, including NAACLS.

General Responsibilities

  • Identifies areas for programmatic improvement and develops and implements initiatives to address weaknesses.
  • Establishes program-specific policies and procedures for candidate recruitment.
  • Acts as a liaison between internal and external constituents; develops and manages external relationships with medical community.
  • Creates research opportunities and tracks progress ensuring learning opportunities for students and residents.
  • Responsible for logistics of the student and resident program. Counsels residents concerning board requirements, adjusting schedules to meet requirements.
  • Constructs action plans and puts in place processes for managing performance expectations in the unit based on goals and deadlines.
  • Ensures the maintenance of all relevant program accreditations.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.  

 

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in medical education or related field. 

LICENSES & CERTIFICATES

Required

  • HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certified upon date of hire. 

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 3 years in related field. 
  • 2 years of clinical histology experience.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Indianapolis, Indiana

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs. 

$62,000 - $75,000 per year based on experience and internal equity within the department
