Job Summary
This position assists directly with the development and implementation of the educational programming and related functions of the Bean Life Science Museum with exclusive responsibility for scheduling. This includes but is not limited to hiring, training, and mentoring BYU students employed to work as museum educators.
 

Essential Functions

  • Museum Education Program Scheduling and programming
  • Training, development, and mentoring of museum educators (BYU student employees) 
  • Participates in the development of new school programs based on the Utah State Core Science Curriculum as well as new public programs
  • Serves on General Museum Committees  
  • Participates in updating and editing the museum¿s website and social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Blogger and managers other communications
  • Oversees the inventory of the education loan collection using Specify data basing software
     

Education/Experience

Minimum education/experience required:
Bachelor¿s degree in the life sciences, education or museum science OR 4 years of experience in a museum-related or science-related field

Preferred:
Master¿s degree in life sciences, education or museum studies

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

  • Microsoft Office suite (required)
  • Google drive software including calendar and Gmail (required)
  • Problem-solve and trouble-shoot on their own (required)
    Acuity scheduling software (preferred)
  • GQueues task management software (preferred)
  • Slack communication software (preferred)
  • Mailchimp software (preferred)
  • Articulates Storyline presentation software used in programs and exhibits (kiosks and other touchscreens) (preferred)
  • Interpersonal skills (required)
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with patrons, students, teachers, and co-workers in a professional manner (required)
  • Science, museum, and education content knowledge (required)
  • Innovative and creative and able to develop relevant content-based programming using best practices, current inquiry learning methods, and strategies for patrons in an informal learning environment (preferred)
  • Dependable and responsible (required)
  • Detail-oriented and can work independently or as part of a team (required)

 

Employee Class: 3/4 Time (28 hour)
Work Location: Provo Campus
Environment: Rare presence of abnormal variations in temperature and exposure to outside conditions

Approximate Starting Salary: $21.50 - $27.75/hour
