The Population Health Initiative has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary , Full-Time Education and Events Specialist to join our team. This position is anticipated to be 2 years in duration.

The Education and Events Specialist will facilitate planning and execution for a variety of educational programs, trainings, convenings, and other initiative-led or initiative-supported activities and events, many of which will be held in the university's new Hans Rosling Center for Population Health. The Population Health Initiative engages and galvanizes stakeholders from across the UW, the region, and the globe toward achieving the vision of creating a world where all people can live healthier and more fulfilling lives. This position acts as a critical resource to help translate that vision into reality.

The Education and Events Specialist will play a key role in the overall operations of the Population Health Initiative. The initiative engages broadly with campus and external partners and stakeholders through a range of programs and events, with this position playing a critical role in the success of that engagement. This position will exercise independent judgment and decision-making skills in operations and project management responsibilities. The incumbent will also take initiative and maintain ownership of responsibilities, using prioritization and applying critical-thinking skills in sometimes ambiguous and unstructured situations. 

The Population Health Initiative is a presidential priority that seeks to advance the health and well-being of people around the world by leveraging capabilities and opportunities at the UW and beyond. This position is integral to the development of the key initiative programs and its collaborative relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Supports Education and Training Programs (35%)

• Supports day-to-day operations of initiative’s existing education and training programs, including courses, fellowships, workshops, and other activities.
• Works with Assistant Director of Strategic Engagement and applicable faculty to identify and develop new education and training activities that align with initiative's mission and support faculty, students, and staff on all three UW campuses.
• Facilitates and assures scheduling and coordination of programming for initiative’s education and training activities, including liaison with speakers and instructors, organization of materials, and support of publicity and registration.
• Facilitates the use of effective instructional approaches in the design and development of distance, hybrid, and flipped classrooms.

Supports Event Planning and Execution (35%)

• Manages planning and logistics for initiative-led or initiative-supported education, training, research, governance, partnership-building, and community-building events.
• Meets with key stakeholders to determine scope, set parameters, and structure the format for each event.
• Scouts locations, manages individual budgets, and works with internal and external vendors to execute events.
• Oversees and troubleshoots day-of activities for applicable events.

Supports Delivery of Key Projects (15%)

• Oversees different initiative-related projects, working collaboratively with key stakeholders to develop comprehensive project plans.
• Performs applicable background research for assigned projects.
• Monitors progress and completion of key tasks to ensure assigned projects are on track to meet the intended goals and objectives.
• Exercises independent decision-making as many of the projects will be unique in nature.

Supports Program Assessment and Evaluation (10%)

• Establishes and maintains record-keeping systems for the initiative’s education and training programs, including but not limited to recruitment, attendance, evaluation, budgets, and overall activities.
• Collaboratively establishes goals and creates and analyzes metrics to measure program effectiveness, recommending process improvement opportunities as needed.
• Maintains databases with key evaluation metrics to assess impact of initiative programming.

Miscellaneous (5%)

• Perform additional duties as assigned that fall within the reasonable scope of this position.   

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum two years of experience offering event, program, and/or project support.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to think critically, work independently, and make informed decisions.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, managing multiple priorities while coordinating the resources needed to meet deadlines.
• Ability to perform tasks independently with precision, accuracy, and meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to influence without authority and build strong, collaborative relationships.
