Position Summary
Appointments to the faculty of The University of Alabama are based on the personnel requirements of the University’s academic programs and on the goal of achieving and maintaining excellence in its teaching, research, and service/academic citizenship activities.


Detailed Position Information
The Department of Educational Studies houses a flourishing educational research program that offers a PhD in Educational Research and both Qualitative and Quantitative Research Certificates for graduate students. The successful candidate will join three existing qualitative research faculty and a vibrant and active qualitative research community, which includes faculty and doctoral students from across the university.

The work norms for the position are structured to fit what is required of our teaching faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 4 classes in qualitative research each semester (80% teaching allocation), with the remaining 20% of their work time devoted to service to the Department, College, and University.

This is a nine-month, non-tenure-earning position with a contract of one year. The position start date is August 15, 2024.


Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

· Earned doctorate in educational research or in a related field with a specialization in qualitative methods (i.e., 18 hours of graduate-level qualitative coursework);

· Demonstrated knowledge of qualitative research methods and educational research design;

· Evidence of ability to conduct research leading to publication;

· Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level(s);

· Evidence of teaching effectiveness;

· Ability to teach introductory qualitative research courses and a course related to qualitative case study;

· Ability to work with students and faculty in a variety of disciplines;

· Excellent writing and communication skills; and

· Demonstrated commitment to valuing varieties of perspectives, communities, and identities in research and teaching.
