Job Details
The editor for Archarios is responsible for managing all content and the editorial workflow for the art and literary student magazine, Archarios, published once a year. The magazine falls under the management of The Athenaeum Press, the student-driven publishing lab at Coastal Carolina University.
General Requirements:
  • Maintain a minimum of ten (10) scheduled office hours per week with other publication paid staff members
  • Develops and implements ideas for expansion of magazine and Athenaeum Press
  • Attends all training and development sessions, including applicable conferences
  • Represent the Press and respective projects at external events

Management
  • Manages executive staff for Archarios
  • Organizes and conducts weekly staff meetings
  • Assigns staff tasks for magazine deadlines

Publication Workflow
  • Coordinates editorial, design, layout, and production schedules
  • Meets and consults with digital editor
  • Organizes preliminary and issue-planning sessions
  • Has final approval on all pieces selected for the magazine
  • Copy edits the final copy of the magazine
  • Organizes and participates in magazine distribution and circulation
  • Takes responsibility for the content of Archarios publication

Leadership and Planning
  • Meets regularly with adviser(s)
  • Supervises and organizes all events, including opening reception of magazine
  • Maintains control over costs and creates budget
  • Submits semester-end and year-end reports
  • Responsible for submitting magazine entries to applicable contests
  • Ensures staff representation at external meetings

Required Qualifications
  • Must have and maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
  • Must be a full-time student (minimum of 12 semester hours) and not on academic or disciplinary probation
  • Must complete seminars held by Athenaeum Press staff prior to start of work
  • Must be available for weekly all-staff meetings

Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with an art or literary magazine, publication, or periodical. Experience working collaboratively with content and visual teams.
