Success Coach


Job Description

The Success Coach partners with students in thoughtful and creative ways that guide and motivate them to reach their full potential. Through quality conversation and meaningful exploration, the coach will build and maintain relationships with a focus on goal setting, overcoming obstacles and achieving success, while adhering to established guidelines. The Success Coach builds working relationships with colleges and advising teams across ASU and ensures students have access to necessary resources and tools.

Salary Range

$52,000 per year


Essential Duties

Engages in proactive outreach to empower students through positive reinforcement, building rapport, and establishing meaningful academic relationships.Coaches students on developing a plan to achieve their academic and career goals.Provides high-quality student-centered support using text, social media, email, phone and chat of a significant volume in a fast-paced environment.Provides support for student accountability and success.Works to build student knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs that support success.Identifies areas for growth and opportunity and creates a personal development plan.Works collaboratively and promotes the discovery process for problem solving.Provides guidance and mentorship to new coaches.Invests in students’ success and reflects commitment by answering phone calls, responding to voice or emails messages, texts or chat within the same business day, and staying beyond regular business hours if needed.Works with internal and external partners in a positive and proactive manner.Monitors student engagement via dashboards and implements interventions as prescribed.Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years previous experience in one or more of the following:  advising, student recruitment/retention or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in retention, graduation, and academic planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of basic computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite, PeopleSoft, Salesforce.Thorough knowledge to resolve issues and problems; identifies trends and recommends alternative solutions to resolve problems.Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, understandable manner, and listen attentively to others, understands material, and provides instructions to all employees.Skill in organization and communication.Knowledge of academic programs, colleges, and departments university-wide.Skill in applying the principles, techniques and methods of teamwork, compromise and collaboration to produce desired outcomes.
Ability to rapidly adapt and effectively utilize new technology, practices, policies and methods.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration and other interested parties.Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities.Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally.Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to needs of a diverse student population. Knowledge of up to date trends and issues in higher education.Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.Ability to effectively listen to students.Ability to recognize critical situations and act on them in compliance with university policies and procedures.Ability to manage time and schedule to meet department goals.


Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse 75 percent; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work 10 percent.Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds 15 percent.Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
