Organizational Unit Overview
The Division of Endocrinology provides many training programs for both diabetes patients and future endocrinologists. A Self-Management Patient Education Program recognized by the American Diabetes Association is available as well as training and education for insulin pumps and other health-related issues for people with diabetes.
The Division of Endocrinology provides consultative evaluation and treatment of all general endocrine conditions.
Job Duties
The professional registered nurse has responsibility for clinical practice, education, and leadership in accordance with the North Carolina Nurse Practice Act and established institutional protocols and policies. The professional registered nurse utilizes a systematic approach to nursing practice incorporating assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The registered nurse demonstrates clinical competence in providing direct patient care and family education, as well as assisting the physician in the delivery of research projects including assessing patients, monitoring for adverse events, collecting data, and educating patients/family members about research protocols. If involved with research activities, duties are consistent with defined research protocols and questionable issues are referred. Ensure the provision of nursing care services in collaboration with other health professionals. Responsible for planning and comprehensive operations of departmental nursing unit(s) on a 24-hour basis.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center. ECU Health Medical Center is the flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/Experience
Graduation from state-accredited school of professional nursing and licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
