Ecology Technician (Temporary)

This position requires someone capable of working independently, overseeing the work of students or interns, and working under administrative supervision, and is expected to be a Research Technician 4 position. KBNERR is recruiting a candidate with excellent writing, research, and communication skills, and experience leading field work in variable outdoor conditions. The candidate must have the demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with biologists, conservation professionals, and resource managers of varying technical levels, as well as communicating research and monitoring techniques to diverse audiences. The candidate must have experience managing, analyzing, interpreting, and displaying biological/hydrological data.

The Ecology Technician must enjoy field work, and will independently structure their time to accomplish tasks related to multiple projects, while collaboratively working with the KBNERR team to implement outreach and training activities. They will establish peatland monitoring protocols that collect and assess vegetation, hydrology, and carbon/methane gas exchange data. This work will contribute toward a broader understanding of groundwater conservation and carbon sequestration amidst the impacts from climate change. Current research includes analyzing impacts of beaver dams on wetlands and groundwater recharge throughout the western Kenai Peninsula lowlands. We are a dynamic team looking for help with diverse projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in ecology, biology, hydrology, conservation biology or related field and four years of experience in a relevant field, or a Master's degree and one to two years of experience in the field.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, non-exempt temporary staff position complete with a competitive salary. New hires will be placed on the Temporary Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 78, based on education and experience.

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year or until filled.
