Description
Job Description, Compensation, and Benefits: The Natural Resources Group monitors 890 square miles of sagebrush steppe within the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Site located in the Snake River Plain about 45 miles west of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Interns will work as members within small field crews to collect vegetation monitoring data throughout the summer. Mentors will provide opportunities for on-the-job learning, professional skill development, and career path growth. Field work includes: Vegetation sampling Collecting field data Plant identification Recording GPS data Operating 4WD vehicles Accessing remote off-trail plots There are several temporary, full-time paid ecological internship positions available. The start date is May 15, 2023. The internship program will last between 13 to 14 weeks. Interns are based in Idaho Falls, ID. Field days begin between 4:30 – 6:30 am., Monday – Thursday, and are typically ten-hours but the duration may vary due to the inherent nature of field work. Compensation and Benefits: INL internships include a nationally competitive wage that is based on the number of credits completed, combined with the degree program. Eligible interns are provided holiday pay, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements along with the potential to earn overtime pay.
Qualifications
Qualifications, Required Application Documents, and Application Link: Applicants must be enrolled full-time student status at an accredited U.S. college or university or recent graduate, able to pass a background check, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, possess a valid drivers license, and will be subject to the requirements of DOE O 142.3B, Unclassified Foreign National Access Program. Recent graduates are defined by their graduation date to be no more than 16 weeks from the internship end date. Preference will be given to students studying ecology, botany, conservation biology, natural resources, rangeland management, environmental science, or other closely related natural resources fields. Field crews often work in remote areas with limited access, so successful candidates must be mature, responsible, self-motivated, team oriented, and able to work with minimal supervision. Interns must be comfortable working in a team setting, hiking over rugged terrain, and quickly changing weather conditions. Required Documents: Resume or Curriculum vitae, Unofficial Transcripts, and current class schedule and credits. Please be prepared to supply professional reference letters.
