Description of Work Unit
The Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Biology Department expands the frontiers of knowledge through our broad-based expertise in applied ecology, quantitative methods, and human dimensions in the conservation and management of fish and wildlife.
We teach students to think critically about environmental issues, and become ecologically literate citizens with the training to be successful in graduate school and in careers with natural resources agencies, firms, and non-government organizations.
Our outreach efforts contribute significantly to life-long learning by assisting individuals and agencies to solve complex environmental problems and to be good stewards of our nation’s natural resources.

Position Summary
The EcoPhys Postdoctoral Researcher will be responsible for analysis of combined animal location data and physiological measurements collected from biologgers at fine temporal scales. Project work will focus on using spatial modeling to characterize GPS collar data and philological biologger data from mule deer in Utah and hibernating black bears in Minnesota.
There is potential for this position to be remote; in-person is preferred, but different possibilities of remote work are acceptable
Required Job Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in a pertinent biological, physical, or computer science field.
  • Demonstrated research focus on spatial ecology
  • Strong publication record in spatial ecology
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Excellence in spatially explicit research as evidenced by a strong publication record
  • Demonstrated proficiency in movement analyses, spatial statistical modeling, and/or processing of large data sets
  • Demonstrated abilities in developing and application of GIS
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer coding in scientific languages (e.g., Matlab, R) and/or programming languages (e.g., Python).
  • Demonstrated experience working in collaborative research settings.
