- Description
- We are seeking one (1) technician to assist with a project focusing on wild turkey reproductive ecology. Field work is expected to start January 2, 2023, and run through July 28, 2023, though these dates can be flexible. The project will specifically focus on chronology of turkey gobbling, turkey movements, space use, nesting, and brood rearing in relationship to the landscape. The role of the technician will be assisting with turkey trapping, radiotelemetry, habitat sampling, acoustic surveying, deployment/monitoring of trail cameras, and data recording and processing. To accomplish these tasks, technician will work both independently and as a part of a small crew. The research will be conducted on the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina.
- Qualifications
- Preference will be given to applicants that have a B.S. in wildlife ecology or related field. Competitive candidates will be expected to: (1) Have previous field experience that includes animal capture and tagging. (2) Have previous experience with radio telemetry and wildlife tracking. (3) Have strong interpersonal skills as daily interaction with U.S. Forest Service personnel will occur. (4) Work early mornings, late nights and weekends when necessary. (5) Have experience operating 4WD vehicles. (6) Have experience with vegetation sampling and surveys. (7) Have experience with climbing tree stands and doesn’t have a fear of heights.
