Description

The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University is seeking three experienced field technicians to work as a Crew Leaders to assist a graduate student with research evaluating impacts of habitat selection and demography of Eastern wild turkey reproductive ecology across North Carolina’s Mountain, Piedmont and Coastal Regions. Primary responsibilities will include rocket net setup, turkey capture and handling, radio-telemetry, habitat sampling, data recording and the supervision of a technician. Candidates with experience including the use of rocket nets, the capture and marking of wild turkeys, vegetation sampling, and radio telemetry will be given preference, as will candidates with GIS coursework and experience. The position will begin in January and last through July.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants that have a B.S. in wildlife ecology or related field. Competitive candidates will be expected to: (1) Have significant field experience that includes the use of rocket nets in animal capture and tagging. (2) Have strong interpersonal skills as daily interaction with landowners, hunters, state agency personnel, and other stake holders will occur. (3) Willingness to work very early mornings and late nights and weekends when necessary. (4) Have experience operating 4wd vehicles and ATV's.
