Position Summary
The eLearning & Development Specialist supports the achievement of Professional Education goals and objectives by designing and developing learning and development programs through a blended learning strategy, coordinating all associated delivery details, and managing logistics for all associated programming. This position will be responsible for the administration and alignment of all learning content in the department.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops course materials in accordance with approved course design specifications that meet the needs of the target audience; works with other training analysts and subject-matter experts to identify, develop, and implement customized eLearning solutions that support the learning strategies and objectives.
  • Acts as expert for creating eLearning storyboard designs and creative content; translates instructional concepts into interactive graphics or animations; works with other eLearning and Development Specialists to make recommendations on approaches that enhance the quality of the learning experience.
  • Contributes to authoring development standards, processes, and templates to produce consistent, quality instructional materials.
  • Applies instructional design and adult learning theory to manage the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of assigned training programs, which may include instructor led, virtual instructor led, eLearning, and blended learning programs.
  • Develops course interfaces and instructional graphics and animations that illustrate critical concepts and desired learning outcomes to be used in classroom or online settings.
  • Analyzes the end-user technology environment (desktop and network) to determine limitations to media, graphic, and audio equipment; selects media and graphic treatment that is consistent with both technology infrastructure and learning audience needs.
  • Manages posting, tracking, and updating of eLearning content registration and learning portals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Working Conditions

  • The eLearning & Development Specialist may be required to attend public events, meetings and functions outside normal working hours, and will be expected to work some weekends as a function of their normal job responsibilities.
  • Some travel, locally, nationally, and internationally may be required to support the creation of on-location digital resource.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) certification from the Association for Talent Development (ATD).
  • Five or more years of development experience with one of the leading e-learning authoring programs (Captivate, Reptivity, Articulate, among others).
  • Ability to manage training development projects from inception to implementation, up to an including instructor-led delivery).
  • Experience in effectively translating written content into visual descriptions (graphics, animations, interactive charts and graphs, video-based scenarios); strong background developing courses and/or instructional animations that require custom code development, using complex web and graphics development applications and/or custom programming (Flash and JavaScript).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and possess excellent organizational and project management skills; flexibility and a high degree of tolerance for ambiguity and change are important; detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including SharePoint.
  • The eLearning and Development Specialist must display effective leadership skills and strong customer service orientation.
  • The desire to work on a team with creative people who design how systems work best is an essential element of the position.
  • Flexibility in thinking and open to new ideas in workflow and system design.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to influence others.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member and requires the ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external clients, including staff, management, and to communicate effectively with diplomacy and tact.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks.


Required Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Development or Design, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience (Three to five years preferred).

Salary Range
$55,600.00 - $94,900.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
