Occupational Summary

The Duke Sexual and Gender Minority Wellness Program (DSGMWP) seeks a Senior Program Coordinator as we continue to grow our Program. The Senior Program Coordinator will plan, coordinate, and administer activities of the Program in collaboration with our Co-Directors and core faculty and staff. They will advise the research and programmatic leads of the DSGMWP on administrative policies and procedures, while also contributing to potential opportunities for continued growth and development of the Program. This will include engaging in and coordinating grant proposal writing and assisting in training activities, as well as the planning our Annual Duke SGM Wellness Symposium. The Senior Program Coordinator will supervise up to 6 staff, including community engagement specialists and students. The Program also plans to hire additional roles over the next 6-18 months that the Senior Program Coordinator would also supervise, including an SGM policy expert; data analyst and database administrator; SGM trainer and education specialist; and communications director.

Our Vision: The Duke Sexual and Gender Minority Wellness Program (DSGMWP) seeks to achieve health equity for sexual and gender diverse people around the world, with a particular focus on low resource regions and countries where sexual and/or gender diversity are highly stigmatized and marginalized, including the Southern United States and the Global South.

Our Mission: 1) Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships to advance knowledge in the field, improve best practices for wellness and care, understand the impact of structural inequities, provide evidence for policy recommendations, and otherwise promote the well-being of sexual and gender diverse people; 2) Increase opportunities, access to resources, and support for Duke faculty, students, clinicians, and community members interested in advancing the well-being of sexual and gender diverse people. 3) Prepare faculty, clinicians, staff and students of all levels to engage in best practices for the wellness of sexual and/or gender diverse persons and train future SGM wellness leaders.

Work Performed

(25%) Make operational and programmatic decisions that have a significant impact on the successful achievement of program strategies and objectives; develop, coordinate and advise staff regarding program policy.

(25%) Plan, coordinate and administer DSGMWP activities across Duke schools, departments, institutes and affinity groups to energize the creation of grant proposal writing groups, education development groups, training groups and policy groups.

 (10%) Coordinate public relations activities to include conceptualizing and writing newsletters, promotional materials, publications, press releases, ads, fliers and web site. Develop plans and schedules for release of publicity materials.

(10%) Budget for, and coordinate, public events and other related programs; develop and coordinate new ideas and concepts for program themes, materials and resources to supplement, expand or replace existing program components.

(10%)  Review and ensure data collection and organization of DSGMWP monitoring and evaluation for reports to funders and others. Recommend changes and modification to systems as required to ensure timeliness, accuracy and efficiency.

(10%)  Provide staff leadership. Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

(10%) Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level


Education/Training:

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.


Experience:

Work requires three years of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or community activities with the SGM population to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.

Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience


Skills:

Ability to work independently with limited supervision. 

Ability to provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting standards and monitoring performance.

Skills using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems.

Skills evaluating program performance, summarizing findings, communicating results, and forming an action plan.

Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.

Ability to network with community members, community leaders, academics, and clinicians.

Great attention to detail, a passion for SGM wellbeing, creative and able to work with a diverse team.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
