Dry Lab Manager (part-time) - Department of Psychology - Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences

The research conducted by the Stress, Health, and Development Lab - within the Department of Psychology - examines how stressful experiences influence physical health and disease risk across the lifespan. Current directions of the lab include understanding the pathways through which early experiences of stress contribute to disease risk in adulthood, with a particular focus on the role of the sleep and the immune system.

Job Overview

The Dry Lab Manager – in a part-time role - is responsible for various tasks that critically ensure the daily functioning of the wet lab and that facilitate the implementation of the lab’s research - in duties that include but are not limited:

reporting to the lab director, Dr. Jessica Chiang.

  • Managing recruitment; performing data collection, cleaning, preparation, and analysis; and assisting in preparing grant applications, presentations, and manuscripts
  • Conducting administrative tasks related to the lab and its research
  • Supervising volunteer research assistants

Work Interactions

Reporting to and closely supervised by the Principal Investigator, the Dry Lab Manager works closely with the PI’s collaborators, graduate and undergraduate students in the lab, research participants from the Georgetown University community and greater DC area, Psychology Department staff and faculty, and conference attendees – both in person and virtually.

As well, they direct the work of volunteer/student research assistants.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or another related field
  • 1 to 2 years research experience in a psychology lab setting
  • Experience collecting and/or managing data collection
  • High motivation and detail orientation
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends depending on availability of participants
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to manage and support a team
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends depending on availability of participants

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with IRB protocols and budget oversight
  • Experience in data preparation, management, and analysis
  • Proficiency with statistical software - e.g. , STATA, R
  • Strong writing skills
