Requirements

Donor Work-Up Coordinator, Marrow Donor Center – Georgetown University Medical Center

The Donor Work-Up Coordinator administers all donor activities for the C.W. Bill Young Marrow Donor Center, up to and including stem cell donation and follow-ups after the stem cell donation. Reporting to the Manager of Donor Services and to Work-Up Team Leaders, they interact routinely with the Associate Director, other Donor Center Coordinators, Team Leaders, Manager, Program Directors, potential donors, nurses, physicians and other Donor centers and Contract Labs; and performs all responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, policies and standards of Georgetown University Medical Center and National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). Duties that include but are not limited to:

Stem Cell Procurement

  • Coordinate sand documents all arrangements for stem cell procurement from compatible donor
  • Conducts information sessions,
  • Arranges command authorization, pre-collection specimen donation, physical exam, and autologous unit donation
  • Coordinates donor travel arrangements
  • Completes collection forms and requirements and status donors
  • Coordinates status notification, makes courier travel arrangements, and follows up with donors post-donation
  • Documents all actions and interactions appropriately within appropriate forms, documents, and databases
  • Interacts with NMDP Case Management staff to ensure adequate and open communication

Professional Development

  • Maintains skill and knowledge base
  • Participates in team meetings and trainings to expand own knowledge and that of team members

Administration

  • Creates, sends, and tracks shipment of kits for donor specimen collection
  • Coordinates collections with donors and ensures safe/timely delivery of kits

Emergency Skill Development

  • Participates in contingency exercises and activities, as needed
  • As needed, provides significant extra assistance to program activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1 to 2 years of donor coordination experience OR 3 to 5 years of experience in a health-related field (or equivalent combination of the two) [Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience] Computer experience with word processing
  • Advanced oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to work with colleagues and donors of diverse backgrounds, and attention to detail

Preferred qualification

Master’s degree
