Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Director - Department of Nursing - (24000721)

Description

Inequities and health disparities are a major public health threat and demand a concerted, interdisciplinary effort. At the College of Public Health, we dedicate ourselves to public health in all its parameters, from epidemiology to nursing, from social work to rehabilitation sciences. Social justice has always driven our work: This understanding that individual outcomes are intricately tied to the larger systems we inhabit is the foundation of our college.

Temple University College of Public Health’s interprofessional culture fosters collaboration both within and outside the college. We value differences among our faculty and believe that we can better serve and understand our Philadelphia community through the diversity of our individual faculty and our disciplines. Join us in our mission to develop progressive, compassionate researchers, practitioners, and clinicians to build a better tomorrow, grounded in creating the environments and health infrastructure that will make us the healthiest nation.

The Position. Temple University College of Public Health is seeking a full-time instructional (Non-Tenure Track) nursing faculty member to teach and serve as Director for our post-baccalaureate and post-masters Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience. The primary responsibilities of the DNP Program Director (PD) are to ensure the successful academic and clinical administration of the program consistent with the Departmental, College of Public Health (CPH), and Temple University mission, philosophy, and policies, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Standards, and the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing (PASBON) regulations. This individual will work in collaboration with the DNP program faculty to ensure the smooth running of the program. Responsibilities will include coordination with various departments to handle admissions, recruitment, advisement, clinical placements, curriculum design, and program evaluation. Additional programmatic duties may be assigned by the Department Chair. The DNP-PD is assigned to the Nursing Department as a full-time instructional faculty member (faculty rank commensurate with experience). Program Administration duties will be considered 50% of the faculty member’s workload, with the balance committed to Teaching and Service.

Qualifications. Prospective candidates will possess the following credentials and experience, or demonstrate attainment of such credentials prior to starting the position: a Doctoral degree in Nursing (Doctor of Nursing Practice preferred), Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania or a multistate RN license from another state, National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (Family Nurse Practitioner preferred), Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner license in Pennsylvania, a minimum of three years of clinical practice experience as a Nurse Practitioner, and teaching experience with a DNP program. Administrative experience in an academic or clinical setting is preferred.

The Department. The Department of Nursing provides its students with an exceptional opportunity to learn in an environment committed to preparing practitioners to face today and tomorrow's clinical challenges. Directed by Dr. Amita Avadhani, the David R. Devereaux Endowed Chair of Nursing and a national leader in nurse education, the Department aims to be a leading force in community-engaged, collaborative efforts to achieve health equity and high quality of life for all, preparing a diverse nursing workforce who excel in leadership, practice, research and scholarship. We aspire to provide excellence in academic programming that is responsive to the health needs of individuals and populations within the context of community, defined as a social and physical environment where living occurs. We are committed to the highest level of prevention-oriented and evidence-based caregiving, provided in collaboration with the community and other professionals and disciplines, including through strengthening our already deep ties between the College of Public Health and Temple University Health System. The Department of Nursing enrolls nearly 500 students annually and offers two accredited programs.

Our eight-semester Bachelor of Science in Nursing program with freshman admission is recognized for its high NCLEX pass rate, clinical affiliations with outstanding healthcare facilities in the Philadelphia area with a service-learning focus. Our Doctor of Nursing Practice program includes post-baccalaureate and post-master’s options with concentrations in Adult Gerontology Primary Care and Family-Individual Across the Lifespan. The post-master’s program prepares graduates for leadership roles in various settings. Expansion of graduate program offerings is anticipated and will include additional DNP specialties, post-master’s certificates, and a direct-entry master’s program for non-nursing college graduates.
