Job Description

DIVERSITY AND OUTREACH COORDINATOR, Biology, to work with the director of diversity and outreach to coordinate and perform operational and administrative activities for all outreach and diversity initiatives focused on increasing access to research for underserved populations across all education stages, from high school to graduate studies, including high school teachers and faculty from community colleges and minority-serving institutions (MSI); track program alumni; and apply content knowledge to support outreach, recruitment, teaching and curriculum development, and grant writing. Responsibilities include providing day-to-day support to the director to ensure seamless operations and compliance with MIT policies/procedures; coordinating event planning, logistics, and spending, including travel, invoice payment, promotion, social media, website maintenance, etc.; facilitating student/program participants onboarding for their respective programs, supporting students, and fostering effective communication from the application process to the end of their program; aiding with curriculum developing and serving as a teaching assistant for lab courses; coordinating annual field trips to Puerto Rico and collaborations with University of Puerto Rico faculty, including travel planning, meeting scheduling, participation in recruiting activities, contributing to planning and strategy, etc.; identifying possible MIT grants and contributing to grant writing for outreach activities; recordkeeping; and implementing communication systems for enhanced efficiency.


Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in science; at least two years' administrative and/or project/program management experience; excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills; discretion with confidential information; ability to work as part of a team; track record of project coordination and community engagement; and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Notion, and Dropbox.
