Course: Diversity, Advocacy, and Social Justice in Social Work

This course is based on a generalist social work perspective and prepares students for beginning practice with individuals and systems. This course focuses on conceptualizing social work practice, integrating knowledge and theory with practice. Students will develop beginning level practice skills that are culturally responsive and ethical. Special attention is given to human diversity and populations at risk.

Human Behavior in the Social Environment I
Human Behavior in the Social Environment II
Trauma-Informed Care
Methods of Research in Social Work
Program Management and Leadership in Social Work
Generalist Social Work Practice I: Working with Individuals and Systems
Generalist Social Work Practice II: Groups, Communities, and Organizations
Case Management
Social Work Capstone

What You Will Do:

  • Facilitate weekly main discussion forums to engage students in the online classroom
  • Adhere to weekly grading requirements, deadlines, and timeframes
  • Respond to students’ questions and emails within the established timeframes
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission of Grand Canyon University

What You Will Bring:

*Professional or Teaching experience required.

  • Doctorate in Social Work OR
    • Counseling OR
    • Psychology OR
    • Behavioral Health OR
    • Human Services OR
    • Educational Psychology
  • AND Master’s in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program
  • AND two years post-master’s social work practice experience in a clinical setting
  • OR Master’s in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program AND three years post-master’s social work practice experience in a clinical setting
