Minimum Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism/mass communication or a related field.
Five (5) years experience as a reporter in the daily print or digital newspaper industry.
Special Conditions
This is a limited funded position with continuation contingent upon funding availability.
The department is especially interested in candidates with ten years of work as a reporter and/or editor in the daily print or digital newspaper news industry in an urban news market.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
May need to work/travel beyond normal schedule.

Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. Strong research, newswriting and critical-thinking skills are essential for this position.
Must demonstrate an ability to follow paper trails, develop sources and produce solid investigative journalism.

Also essential to this position is a firm understanding of the mosaic of factors affecting criminal justice and public safety today including poverty, mass incarceration, gun violence, victims’ rights, bail reform, police accountability, crime-related legislation, equity in sentencing and the diversity of opinion regarding these issues.
