Clackamas Community College (CCC) at the Oregon City, Oregon campus seeks to hire a part-time Disability Resource Specialist. Purpose of Position:
Provide students (prospective, new, and current), parents, instructors, and community member information about programs, accommodations, and documentation needs for students with disabilities. Review documentation and determine appropriate academic accommodations. Communicate accommodations to students and faculty and arrange for provision.   
This position will be expected work in person at Disability Resource Center on the Oregon City Campus, between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday - Thursday.  The specific schedule will be determined when hired. 
Essential Job Functions:
Assess and Assign Student Academic Accommodations (40%)
  • Evaluate disability documentation and determine reasonable accommodations for students as required by ADA (Americans with Disabilities) to ensure equal access to the college experience including access to textbooks, materials, and equipment needed for classes, programs and services.
  • Work with students in initial meetings to review legal disability documentation and determine what accommodation may assist them with equal access to their education.  
  • Collaborate with students and faculty to ensure the student's accommodations are being met.
  •  Use a case-management approach to proactively meet with students and other stakeholders to ensure the accommodation is reasonable and appropriate to the functional limitations of the student.
  • Utilize available and appropriate technology, including Colleague, Navigate, Outlook, AIM, etc. to: monitor the academic progress of students and ensure they’ve requested their accommodations quarterly, identify current and potential academic needs, document ongoing case management activities, and document all pertinent student information and status updates.
  • Develop and Maintain Strong Working Relationships (30%)
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with colleagues, supervisors, clients and others. 
  • Resolved concerns of upset students, family members (with a FERPA release), or faculty, as needed while maintaining positive relationships.
  • May work with individuals who are frustrated or dissatisfied with policies or procedures and will engage in these situations productively and respectfully, to de-escalate issues and resolve identified concerns.
  • Provide General Student and Office Support (30%)
  • Work collaboratively with office staff to ensure adequate staffing of the office
  • Assist in triaging incoming accommodation requests and related questions promptly and actively connect with students, faculty, and community members via email, phone, video meetings, and in-person appointments in a customer service and friendly manner.
  • Maintain student confidential student files and databases to ensure required documentation is current and that the documentation supports the accommodation requested; while following state and federal requirements, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas. 
  • Monitor and provide updated information on DRC website pages. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Auxiliary Job Functions:  

    • Assist other college personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate.  Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility.  Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.


    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND a minimum of 1 year of related work experience. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described. 
    • Demonstrated knowledge of ADA law specific to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and compliance with WCAG and Section 508. Knowledge of universal accessibility features for desktop and laptop computers as well as tablets and mobile devices.  

    • Knowledge of basic adaptive and assistive technology and software.

    Preferred Requirements:
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, other agencies, and the general public.

    • Communicate effectively orally and in writing; develop and deliver public presentations

    • Manage time effectively; read and interpret policies, regulations, and laws as they relate to the job

    • Demonstrated experience evaluating student self-report and disability documentation for accommodation determination

    • Demonstrated experience working with multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff while maintaining a positive and friendly disposition

    • Demonstrated experience maintaining a high degree of discretion when dealing with sensitive/confidential information.

    Special Requirements:
    • Valid Driver's License acceptable in the State of Oregon.

    Physical Demands of the Position:
    While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 5 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc., and may infrequently require moving materials/objects weighing 25 to 60 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.

    Working Conditions:
    Usual office working conditions. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noise. When staffing events or accompanying faculty on outreach-related visits, hours may be shifted to the weekend or after normal business hours.
     
    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    Supervision of others is not a typical function assigned to this position.
     
    Supervision Received:
    Works under the general supervision of the Director of Student and Academic Support Services.
