Brooks School of Public Policy (Brooks School) invites applications for Director of the Sloan Program in Health Administration, which offers a master’s degree in health administration (MHA). The successful candidate will join the faculty of the Brooks School in the rank of tenured associate or full professor starting July 1, 2023. After working closely with the current Sloan Director during the 2023-2024 academic year, the successful candidate will assume the Director position on July 1, 2024 and become responsible for directing all aspects of the Sloan Program.
The mission of the Sloan Program is to provide highly-motivated, talented recent college graduates enrolled in the residential Master of Health Administration (MHA) program and experienced health care professionals enrolled in the Executive Master of Health Administration (EMHA) program with a health care business management and leadership curriculum that allows them to develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a leader in the health care field. The two-year, residential MHA program requires 60-credits, whereas the 18-month, hybrid (80% online) EMHA degree program requires 37 credits and attracts working professionals. The Sloan Program typically enrolls 25 to 35 students in each residential cohort and 40 to 50 in each executive cohort. It is currently ranked 9th among graduate programs offering the MHA degree
The director is responsible for overseeing both the MHA and EMHA programs including ensuring that the curriculum provides students with opportunities to develop the skills necessary to excel as a health care manager and leader. It also involves identifying tenure track faculty and recruiting adjunct faculty who can teach the required courses effectively. The director will also teach required or elective courses in the program, work closely with the Brooks School Alumni Affairs and Development to manage relationships with alumni and donors, manage the CAHME accreditation process, and lead efforts to enhance the program’s standing among MHA programs. The director will work with Brooks School admissions staff to manage the annual admissions process and with career services staff to help place students in internships and full-time positions. The director will lead ongoing efforts to raise the visibility of the Sloan Program within the health care professional community by attending ACHE and AUPHA meetings and interacting with local, state and national health care institutions, and exploring opportunities for collaborating with other Cornell units, including the Nolan School of Hotel Administration, Weill Cornell, the SC Johnson College of Business, and others.
