Position Summary:
 
The UCNL Hub in Southern California is headquartered at UCI under the Office of Research reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Research. The University of California's fundamental missions are teaching, research, and public service. The mission of the Office of Research is to support and enhance the creative and scholarly activities of faculty. Led by the Vice Chancellor for Research and his Senior Leadership team, the Office of Research (OR) works with other campus units to foster an environment for research and artistic activity that facilitates the discovery and dissemination of knowledge in many forms to all levels of society. OR provides central campus administrative support for UCI’s research programs. It includes Research Administration (RA), University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR), Administration/ Financial Operations and Research Program, and the Office of the Vice Chancellor.
 
Takes leadership role in independently managing and directing the UC-National Laboratory (UCNL) Hub in Southern California will be responsible for leading, enhancing and increasing collaborations between five UC Campuses: UC Los Angeles (UCLA), UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), UC San Diego (UCSD), UC Irvine (UCI) and UC Riverside (UCR) and the UC managed National Laboratories (Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL) and Los Alamos National Lab (LANL). The director will develop vision and establishes agenda to achieve research objectives by collaborating with the steering council and technical committee and have the responsibility for strategically planning, developing, and advancing coordinated activities to harness the synergies of the partners for high-impact collaborative research that educates the next generation of the technical workforce on opportunities within the UC National Laboratories through a pilot program funded by UCOP. This role requires working with internal and external stakeholders, customers, and researchers/research groups/programs to determine scope, time frames, and funding requirements. Oversees all elements of program administration. Collaborates across five UC Campuses. Provides leadership in identifying outreach services. With the steering council and technical committee, formulates program strategies and goals, directs long-term planning, and develops policies and procedures. Is considered a subject matter expert of the organization and is recognized as an expert externally in the field.

$103,100.00 - $150,000.00 (Annual Salary) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $103,100.00 - $211,300.00 (Annual Salary)
 
Required:
 
10 years of experience in academic and national laboratory multidisciplinary collaborative research and a technical background in one of the STEM fields.
Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Demonstrated expertise with program building within a leading academic institution for handling administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices. Expert oral and written communication skills. Expert ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills. Expert interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results. Expert ability to work collaboratively with dynamic and diverse group of faculty, staff and students. Leadership experience in academic and / or government agencies. Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
 
Preferred:
 
Expert fundraising experience. Expert negotiation skills. Demonstrated expertise building collaborations between academia, industrial and / or governmental agencies.
