Primary Purpose: 

The Stroke Program Director is fundamental to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the UC Health stroke program directed towards the provision of quality services for patients who are experiencing stroke from a multi-disciplinary perspective throughout the continuum of care. This individual works collaboratively with the Stroke Program Medical Directors and Nursing Leadership in a mutually supportive relationship, which is essential to the success of the program across the organization.

The Stroke Program Director is an expert nurse who provides leadership for the organization of services and systems necessary for a collaborative approach to stroke care at the system level. He/She will assume the day-to-day responsibilities of process and performance improvement activities as they relate to nursing, and ancillary personnel and assist in carrying out the same functions for all staff at UC Medical Center’s Comprehensive Stroke Center, while also overseeing the West Chester Hospital Primary Stroke Center Certification. 

The Stroke Program Director plans, implements and evaluates the stroke program to achieve high quality, patient-focused outcomes which advance patient and family care and nursing practice in stroke care.

The Stroke Program Director is responsible for the UC Health stroke program development, quality assessment, improvement and inter/intra disciplinary communications.

The Stroke Program Director will work collaboratively with all hospital and clinic personnel on shared system and performance improvement projects and reports to the UCGNI Executive Administrative Director.




Qualifications

 

Knoweldge and Skills:

Education: Minimum required Masters Degree, MSN

License & Certification: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.  Current BLS/ACLS certifications required.  CNRN required within 1 year (Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse)

Years of Experience: 5 years of clinical stroke care experience, additional intensive care unit experience preferred.  3 years program development related to stroke care.  3 years of supervisory experience.  3 years of managing multiple projects or operational experience.

Required Skills and Knowledge:  

  • Must have experience with program development and coordination in a complex environment.
  • In order to have organizational credibility a masters degree in a related field is an educational requirement. 
  • Experience in the following software applications is required:
    • Spreadsheets (Excel, etc.)
    • Power Point
    • Word Processing (Word, etc.)
  • Consultative and research skills
  • Ability to accept and implement change
  • Must present a professional manner, have good verbal/written communication skills; be able to maintain confidentiality of all data. Demonstrate ability to lead and coach teams with across a wide variety of skill levels.
  • The ideal candidate will be comfortable and excellent at organizing data collection and use, coaching teams, teaching improvement concepts and growing others to drive tremendous and transformative change.  They will help to create the UC Health system approach to stroke care.
  • Must have clinical competence in stroke care.
  • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships, utilize proper channels of communication and maintain confidentiality
  • Evidence of continuing professional growth and membership in a professional organization related to care area
