The Director of Tutoring Services is responsible for operations, development, and supervision of the tutoring centers at all UNG campuses. This includes directing tutoring center operational activities and assisting with the hiring, training, and supervising of staff tutors and student workers. 

  • Provide leadership to Tutoring Services for UNG: supervise and evaluate all full-time staff, manage budget allocation, assess effectiveness of tutoring services in each area and by campus, and make recommendations regarding those assessments and evaluations to the Assoc. VP and Dean of University College. 
  • Manage all UNG tutoring locations (on campus and online); provide support services and promote and maintain good public relations with faculty, staff, students, and administrators; serve as liaison with tutoring, instructional and administrative staff in conducting periodic reviews of the tutoring center's programs and activities; meet regularly with asst. directors, coordinators, and faculty leads for tutoring services.
  • Work as a part of the Tutoring Services leadership team to develop and implement academic support activities to increase student retention and graduation rates and to collaborate with other departments to develop student-focused projects and services.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, observe, evaluate qualified professional STEM tutors, student workers, and embedded tutors; approve bi-weekly timecards; facilitate program evaluation with tutors at the end of each semester.
  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate university-wide tutoring data to determine growth potential, program evaluation, program activity reports; research and benchmark other tutoring and learning assistance programs at peer institutions and on-campus to develop synergy and reduce redundancy with these programs. 
  • Maintain an up-to-date Tutoring Services Policy Manual and oversee CRLA-compliant training for student tutors employed by Tutoring Services. Maintain CRLA certification.
  • Represent the College and Tutoring Services at internal and external events.
  • Tutor students in area(s) of expertise.
  • Serve on university committees, participate in professional development opportunities, contribute at orientations, and perform other duties as assigned by the AVP and Dean of University College. 
  • Master's degree is required. Preferably in a STEM field. 
  • Five years of tutoring center experience, with a minimum of two years of experience in higher education teaching or in a coordinating/management position in a student success unit. 
  • PhD preferred.
