JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University is looking for an inaugural director of a newly established unit within Student Affairs – the student resource hub.  The primary goals of the resource hub are to contribute to student success and to foster student belonging.   This presidential initiative is a partnership with student leaders, who identified the need to assist their peers in navigating University resources.   The University is seeking a culturally competent, innovative, and student-centered leader to be responsible for implementing, enhancing, and assessing the student resource hub.

The resource hub – called MyResource – will serve students by providing them with customizable information about the multiple units and resources that contribute to the student experience.  The initiative is composed of two primary tiers:  Tier 1 will be an online, interactive, self-service information portal; Tier 2 will be an office at the University Park campus that will provide personal assistance for students across the University to connect with the expansive resources available to assist with student success.

Specific Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

Leadership - Overseeing the launch and managing the rollout of Tiers 1 and 2 of the student resource hub and future phases.  Serve as the primary liaison to several committees of students, faculty, and staff that are contributing to the project – assessment, communications and marketing, implementation, and technology.  Create a strategic plan for the continuous improvement and expansion of services.

Supervision - Supervise a Program Coordinator and direct the work of a Project Manager.  Determine the future staffing structure needed and supervise the staff who will advance the technology.  Assist the Program Coordinator in the hiring, training, and evaluation of 20-30 student staff.

Relationship Building and Management - Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to effectively identify and address student concerns.  Identify subject matter experts who will test and validate the information shared through both the online platform and the physical office.  Ensure that the resource hub is accessible and inclusive, addressing the needs of a diverse student population.  Establish and facilitate the student advisory board.  Seek, secure, and steward funding for the resource hub’s ongoing operations and staffing.

Administration - Work with the Program Coordinator to secure, design, configure, and manage the physical space.  Develop, administer, and monitor the spending plan.  Guide the communications, marketing, and outreach efforts.  Implement the assessment committee’s plan to learn about the resource hub’s usage, satisfaction, student needs, and impact, which will be used to guide the resource hub’s evolution.  Serve as a member of the Student Affairs Directors group.

Education and Experience

  • The successful candidate should have a master’s degree, preferably in Higher Education or Student Affairs.

  • Eight years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a good understanding of current trends in higher education, experience working collaboratively across a large and complex institution, familiarity engaging with IT project teams, and are proficient in data analysis.   Candidates should have experience working with diverse student populations and engaging with student leaders.

Review of applications will begin on June 10th.
