Position Summary

The Director, Student Clinical Support Division is responsible for providing the strategic leadership essential to having the required clinical agency contracts, ensure that the stipulated compliance requirements are met by both students and faculty and in ensuring clinical site placements are managed appropriately. The Director must also ensure adherence to the University and School of Nursing’s policies and procedures, accreditation standards, clinical agency contractual obligations, and state law. Failure to have current contracts and ensure that all compliance requirements are met can place students, faculty and patients at risk for infectious disease and can result in the clinical agencies canceling contracts or refusing clinical experiences for students. This position negotiates the terms of the clinical affiliation agreements and directs the implementation and management of the health, safety and legal compliance for all enrolled students and clinical faculty. This includes managing compliance records, translating contractual language into student and faculty requirements, updating compliance policies, providing expert guidance to students and faculty on compliance and contract related matters and serving as the primary liaison with internal and external clinical agency representatives. This position oversees the Clinical Site Placement process that places students in agencies for their educational clinical rotations. The Director reports to the Executive Dean/Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and collaborates extensively with University Council.

Educational Requirements

Relevant post-Baccalaureate in business administration, public administration, law, or related business area; JD or MBA preferred. Candidates must have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience that includes extensive use of database programs. For candidates with >5 years of relevant experience, an undergraduate degree may be accepted. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Relevant experience and skills includes:
-Knowledge of contract law and experience in contract negotiations required.
-Experience in the drafting, processing, negotiating and/or administration of legal contracts/agreements/memorandums of understanding.
-Familiarity with clinical practices and knowledge of CHS, NC Dept. of Public Health and CDC requirements.
-Proficiency in all aspects of computer operations essential including, strong working knowledge of MS Office – Word and Excel.
-A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to operate with minimal daily supervision required.
-Excellent legal drafting skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to proactively identify issues and develop creative solutions.

Qualifications and Experience

Strong self-management skills, data-base management skills, demonstrated ability to organize work flow, success in coordinating activities in a challenging work environment, proven ability to effectively supervise and motivate staff, meticulous attention to detail, and demonstrated effectiveness in leading a high-performing teams. The ability to evaluate accomplishments of the unit to ensure program missions and goals are being met and the ability to proactively and independently troubleshoot issues within program area are also important. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and/or database programs. This role must adhere to all UNC-Chapel Hill FERPA policies and procedures.

Superior interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities and deadlines, ability to collaborate with a wide variety of constituents, ability to solve complex problems, and proven management experience to include planning, resource and outcome analysis and allocation, supervision, and use of creative and innovative strategies to ensure operational excellence.
Strong customer service focus; proven ability to problem solve in an inventive manner; master ability to handle multiple tasks and set priorities; and ability to coordinate group activities and implement office procedures. The individual must be results driven, a proactive team member who seeks state-of-the-art ways to continuously improve service delivery to all internal and external stakeholders, and possess experience in researching and developing creative approaches to address and improve current and future programs, processes and procedures.
