The Opportunity
This newly created position reports to the Assistant Athletics Director of Student-Athlete Success & Well-Being, the Director of Student-Athlete Success and Well-Being and will be responsible for managing, executing, and evaluating all programming related to student-athlete engagement. This position is a member of the DASH team and will play a pivotal role in supporting the holistic development of Stanford student-athletes through programming, education, and leadership opportunities with an emphasis on connection and belonging. The Director of Student-Athlete Success and Well-Being will work alongside the Assistant Athletics Director to develop and facilitate an assortment of team trainings in collaboration with campus partners, as requested by coaching staff in support Stanford’s transition to the ACC. In addition, this position will assist with the development and execution of student-athlete career services, as well as manage the NCAA postgraduate scholarship process on behalf of DAPER.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage, execute, and evaluate all student-athlete engagement programming including signature events (e.g. New Student-Athlete & Family Welcome, Senior Send-Off).
  • Coordinate and execute all areas of holistic advising, administrative, and programming support for student-athlete engagement groups including but not limited to SAAC: Student-Athlete Advisory Committee; Cardinal House; CardinalBLCK; Cardinal Pride; Cardinal Community; SEA: Social Events for Athletes; AIMS: Athletes In Medicine at Stanford; SAS: Student-Athletes for Sustainability.
  • Manage all aspects of NCAA postgraduate scholarship process on behalf of DAPER.
  • Assist with mandatory NCAA Transformation Committee, ACC Conference, and California-mandated education
  • Support and assist the development and execution of the student-athlete career and alumni mentoring services and programming, as needed
  • Coordinate marketing & communication efforts for DASH engagement team, including
    student-facing communications, maintenance of website, and online platforms (e.g. Canvas)  
  • Work alongside  Assistant Athletics Director for Student Success and Well-Being to develop and facilitate an assortment of team trainings in collaboration with campus partners, as requested by coaching staff in support Stanford’s transition to the ACC
  • Provide additional holistic support on the road for teams with increased travel demands due to ACC transition
  • Advise students on a range of issues including personal development, identity exploration, goal setting, community standards, intergroup communication and dialogue,professional development, accessibility, and more to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions
  • Financial literacy programming and support, in close collaboration with the General Manager for NIL
  • Work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Advising and Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Success and Well-Being to further develop relationships with the campus community
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor*

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Advanced degree
  • 3-5 years experience in student affairs at in a highly selective research university with a diverse population of students

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and familiarity with intercollegiate athletics, especially NCAA rules and regulations, is strongly desired
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences including student­-athletes, coaches, administration and University staff
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, and customer service skills
  • Nuanced understanding of issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience including a solid understanding of social media
  • Ability to learn and understand compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

This position is responsible for ensuring that your involvement with DAPER activities maintains the integrity of the University’s reputation and does not negatively impact the relationship between the University and its faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Additionally, this position must comply with University policies and procedures, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations.


Pay Range:
The expected pay range for this position is $68,000 to $104,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
