Position Summary

The director of the Student Achievement and Success Program (SASP) is responsible for the development, leadership, and management of student achievement activities, initiatives, and programs that support first-generation, low-income students with developmental requirements, military/veterans and their family members and minority students in need of academic support. Oversees the daily operation of SASP, Summer Bridge to Success (BTS), general oversight of Military/Veterans Resource Center (MVRC), and Black Male Institute (BMI), college Foundation scholars programs (President's Opportunity Scholars and Crosby Scholars), including program planning, academic advising, non-academic in-class supports for specific gateway courses (ie, ENG 101A), external collaborations with specific Anne Arundel County Public high schools, establishing service standards, budget oversight, tracking and evaluation of program participants data to improve processes and services. The director supervises and evaluates the performance of office staff, including regular employees, contract with-benefits employees, temporary employees, and federal work-study students. Works in collaboration with college faculty/staff and community members to develop programs and provide holistic retention advising and services responsive to student needs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Provide leadership and direction for the design and implementation of in-person and virtual activities/services for SASP; facilitate the development of SASP operations and procedures; Provide oversight and management of the budget for SASP programs Hispanic Youth Symposium, Bridge To Success (BTS), Black Male Institute (BMI) Military Veterans Resource Center (MVRC) and other college Foundation sponsored initiatives including the President Opportunity Scholars (POSCH) and Crosby Scholars programs.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of permanent full-time staff members, contract without benefits staff members, faculty, and professional tutors who work in the summer bridge program and SASP Tutoring Lab; conduct weekly staff meetings, bi-annual retreats, and training as required.
Develop learning outcomes and program objectives; conduct and evaluate ongoing evaluations of all program components for continuous quality improvement. Complete and submit weekly, monthly, mid-year, and annual reports, including the Unified Improvement Plan and Unit Assessment, program updates/highlights to the Dean of Student Development; other external reports to MHEC, Maryland Challenge Grant, Military Friendly questionnaires, etc., as required.
Develop resources to grow and/or expand SASP services, including assisting the Grant office with identifying and applying for grants that would meet the needs of the student population that SASP serves. Provide support for grant initiatives and collaborate with the College Foundation to solicit business and community financial support.
Collaborate with the college Foundation and Financial Aid to facilitate the awarding of SASP/FYE Scholarships; the Office of Sponsored Programs for grant writing, reporting, and monitoring; Information Services for the utilization of technology for student success; and PRIA for the assessment of SASP and Military/Veteran data.
Serve as college co-advisor for Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society for students who began their college eduction with developmental requirements.
Serve on college search committees and internal/external committees as required by the dean of student development or vice president of LSS. Including LSS Deans and Directors Leadership, Extended President's Cabinet, Impact and Excellence Awards Committee, LSS Professional Development Committee, College High Impact Practice Committee, Veterans Appreciation Planning Committee; Co-lead of Engagement Matters, Enrollment Retention Completion Council, Academic Forum member, and College Scholarship Committee, etc.
Oversee recruitment, initial assessment, holistic intrusive monitoring, education plan development, tutoring services, tracking, and support services for program participants. Provide in-class (online or in-person) non-academic student support for specific gateway courses (ENG 101A)

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree or higher
Minimum of five to ten years of relevant experience
Ability to interact effectively with students, staff, faculty and the public.
Demonstrated collaboration and/or partnership work.
Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.
Experience working with first-generation, low income, and/or minority students.

Preferred Qualifications:

Grant writing and demonstrated acquisition of financial and other resources.
Program assessment and evaluation experience.
Knowledge of military/veteran issues and best practices.
