What we want

The Director, SSLC & Physician KSTAR Program, under general direction, works with ARCHI staff on program deliverables for ARCHI contracts and services that require medical licensure.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.). Ten years of related experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • State of Texas (Texas Medical Board) full medical license or administrative medical license.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Organizational and prioritization skills. Attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of, and the ability to apply principles and practices of modern medicine. Knowledge of pharmacotherapeutics.

  • Ability to use and manage and electronic medical records system. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in physician assessments, medical supervision, training, or education.

  • Expertise regarding the treatment of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Mortality Review Program: Works in collaboration with members of the mortality review team to complete comprehensive reviews of medical and mortality records for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and individuals who are receiving psychiatric care. Uses a data abstraction tool to develop summaries of medical review findings related to services and care provided, with a focus on medical care, pharmacotherapeutics, safety, and best practices. Determines and drafts actionable commendations or recommendations for inclusion in individual mortality review reports, as appropriate. Reviews and edits final draft reports for submission to contracted entities. Contributes to, and reviews, semiannual and annual reports of aggregate information from mortality reviews, trends in causes of death, and/or recommendations for system-wide improvements.

  • Physician KSTAR Program: Reviews application materials and records before assessments and is on-site for the physician-interactive portions. Views standardized patient scenarios in real-time and troubleshoots issues as needed. Leads interviews to review standardized patient encounters and to gather the physician’s history, reason for the assessment, and goals going forward. Leads or facilitates the record review or chart-stimulated recall, dependent on the need for a consultant. Leads or facilitates clinical structured interviews when applicable. Review all assessment materials before committee meetings. Attends KSTAR committee meetings via Zoom to discuss the assessment and generate recommendations. Completes draft final reports including decisions and recommendations from the committee meeting, and edits from committee members. Review reports and suggests edits as needed.

  • Training/Compliance: Completes Patient Safety Organization Workforce training as needed. Participates in continuing education activities to maintain licensure. Maintains knowledge of American Medical Association ethics and standards, principles/practices of modern medicine, and pharmacotherapeutics.
