The UC Riverside School of Medicine is seeking an experienced Director of Sponsored Research and Programs. Reporting to the School of Medicine (SOM) Associate Dean/Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, and in collaboration with the Senior Associate Dean of Research, the Director of the SOM Sponsored Research and Programs Department provides leadership, management, and development in support of the school's strategic plan to promote and grow sponsor-funded programs and research. The incumbent is responsible for a variety of complex managerial, operational, financial, and outreach functions in support of the greater SOM research enterprise, which includes the management of both extramural and intramural initiatives. Serves as the overarching resource and authority for the Clinical and Research Departments to ensure that all grants managed, regardless of whether they are housed in the Research, Clinical, or in Sponsored Research Departments, are managed consistently at a School of Medicine-wide level and that reporting to central campus and the grant sponsors is uniform. Duties include analysis and interpretation of federal, state, and university policies and procedures; oversight of specialized research administrative functions; process development to ensure consistency and compliance in the management of all sponsored funds across the school; financial management and reporting; development and delivery of training workshops and meetings; and deployment of staff resources. Additionally, the Director is responsible for a broad range of non-sponsored, intramural funding encompassing multiple funding sources including Endowment, Gifts, Sales & Service, and University and school-state allocations, including those for faculty start-up, residual funding, and student and research fellowships. The Director leverages their strong background in fund accounting administration in order to adequately advise and teach the team, while ensuring a high level of financial data integrity on the Department's managed funds, currently totaling over $32 million in annual allocations. The incumbent participates directly with leadership in strategic and tactical planning in the pursuit of extramural funds and provides expert consultation in the highly complex regulatory and business operations of sponsored funding to SOM senior leadership, department heads, staff, and campus constituents, as well as external partners as needed.The Director leads and directs a team of employees providing services in the areas of research development, pre-award activities, writing and editing, and extramural and intramural award management to the SOM community, including the Dean's Office, the Division of Biomedical Sciences, the Division of Clinical Sciences, the Department of Research, the Center for Healthy Communities, Student Affairs, Undergraduate Medical Education, and Graduate Medical Education.

The full salary range for this position is $107,200 - $207,200 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $107,200 up to $157,200 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
