Position Summary
The Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) for Genetics and Rehabilitation at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha is currently accepting applications for the Director of the Speech-Language Pathology. This full-time, 12 month academic track position boasts a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate to experience and/or academic rank.

As faculty in the MMI Speech-Language Pathology department, the Director of Speech-Language Pathology would be oversee the Speech-Language Pathology Department including staffing, department finances, accounts receivable, patient satisfaction, contracts, open encounters, compliance, and training. Represents the organization throughout the nation, state, and internationally as expected as a senior leader. Works closely with the other MMI Department Directors to advance the MMI/UNMC mission and establish joint multidisciplinary services. Participates in community engagement activities and MMI organized community and fundraising efforts to advance the MMI mission. Ensures that the SLP Department operates efficiently and at the highest ethical and professional standard. Provides specialized support and supervision for the outpatient-based speech pathology services in the Speech Pathology Department. Collaborates with the Supervisor for Integrated Speech Services in hiring outpatient speech pathology staff. Leads development, hiring/firing, and evaluation for a portion of the outpatient speech pathology staff. Leads developing, scheduling, and coordinating outpatient speech pathology services. Works as a liaison between the Speech Pathology Department and Nebraska Medicine and UNMC. Leads development of Speech Pathology Department goals. Initiates and maintains effective communication to promote positive relations with all departments, providers and students within MMI, UNMC, and Nebraska Medicine. Conducts clinical, translational or other applicable research within their area of clinical specialty. Participates in grant-writing. Supports training of entry-level, clinical and/or graduate level students. 
Responsibilities and Duties:

Administration

  • Oversee the SLP Department program and staffing
  • Manage the SLP Department finances
  • Manage SLP Department contracts, including the RiteCare contract
  • Manage the RiteCare Clinics in Omaha, Lincoln, and Hastings, including staffing and finances
  • Presents annually to the Munroe-Meyer Board of Directors and the Scottish Rite Nebraska Orient Council
  • Participate in Nebraska Medicine contract meetings
  • Lead search committee for a portion of outpatient staff positions
  • Hire new outpatient staff in collaboration with the Supervisor for Integrated Speech Services and human resources
  • Serve on search committees for related positions as needed
  • Coordinate outpatient schedules and staff training with the Supervisor for Integrated Speech Services
  • Make recommendations to annual fee schedule to the Director of PIO
  • Ensure compliance with competencies
  • Identify and complete quality improvement projects
  • Lead the SLP Leadership Team, run bimonthly meetings, and complete agendas and minutes
  • Lead monthly SLP Staff Meetings
  • Lead monthly SLP Faculty Meetings
  • Lead monthly SLP Q & A sessions
  • Lead Quarterly RiteCare of Nebraska Meetings
  • Lead monthly meetings for both Hastings RiteCare Clinic and Lincoln RiteCare Clinic
  • Complete RiteCare Quarterly Report
  • Participate in Nebraska Medicine Quarterly Speech Data Review meetings with Associate Director of Speech-Language Pathology and Inpatient Rehabilitation Directors
  • Participate in monthly meetings with the Associate Director of Speech Pathology
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the Outpatient Coordinator
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the SLP Operations Associate
  • Reconcile all P-card purchases from the SLP Operations Associate
  • Attends monthly MMI Department Director meetings

Attends monthly MMI Clinical Director meetings
       
Clinical:
  • Provide diagnosis and treatment to individuals with speech, language, voice, cognitive-linguistic, or swallowing disorders
  • Complete accurate records of evaluation and treatment
  • Develop clinical service programs to improve outpatient-based services
  • Establish department and community partnerships
  • Provide oversight of such programs/partnerships


Education:

  • Develop and instruct graduate and/or post-graduate students
  • Develop and provide guest lectures in classes in masters and doctoral degree programs at MMI
  • Provide lectures, workshops, and training opportunities in interdisciplinary settings at Nebraska Medicine, MMI departments and community partner programs
  • Present at local, regional or national conferences in areas relevant to expertise


Research:

  • Develop and maintain clinical research expertise within topics related to SLP services
  • Pursue and secure extramural funding for clinical/translational research
  • Develop and participate in interdisciplinary and intercampus research, program development, and training
  • Supervise postdoc/inter/graduate student research projects


Supervision and Development

  • Onboard new staff
  • Supervise SLP Faculty, RiteCare SLPs, and a portion of the outpatient SLPs
  • Meet with supervisees quarterly
  • Complete annual performance reviews
  • Manage performance 
  • Approve time off and update MMI Speech Outpatient calendar accordingly
  • Facilitate staff training and continued development in outpatient-based speech pathology services
  • Help plan and carry-out Spirit Week with the SLP Leadership Team


Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related area (Strong ABD candidate considered); licensure or license eligibility to practice speech-language pathology in the state of Nebraska; Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA); Minimum three years of experience in the provision of speech-language pathology services.
Supplemental Qualifications
Experience in supervision and management. Skills in public speaking and presentations.
