Job Summary
This position provides leadership and vision for the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) team. This position is also a critical part of the Student Affairs Departmental Leadership and reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Development and Inclusion. The Director will provide strategic oversight for the development and execution of programs and services that engage students at the University of Utah, with a focus on educating about critical social movements, exploring identities through an intersectional lens, and striving for social justice. The Director contributes to the support and empowerment of all women and gender marginalized students by creating a strong community and offering a brave space. The director will have knowledge of frameworks such as Intersectionality, Black Feminist Thought, Mujerista Discourse, and/or Queer Theory, just to name a few. The director will align programming and counseling that are trauma-informed and aligned with a feminist multicultural theory framework. Director should demonstrate the ability to learn and apply knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA, Campus SaVE Act, and other institutional, state and federal regulations.
The director is responsible for supervision of personnel, budgeting & accounting, administration of programs and activities, evaluation of personnel and programs and reporting. The director will lead the strategic planning, outreach and program planning, and scholarship administration. The director will ensure through leadership and collaboration, the offering of wellness and counseling support to students in partnership with the University Counseling Center. The director will cultivate
relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and donors throughout the campus and broader community to continue the evolution of the WRC.
Responsibilities
Supervision and Leadership
  •  Execute best practices with a high degree of self-direction to plan and balance workload, solve problems and take action in highly complex situations where independent judgment, critical thinking skills, and in-depth analysis are necessary to resolve issues where there is no clear precedent, standard technique, guideline, formula or quickly conceived solution available. 
  • Develop short- and long-range goals, strategic planning process  and operational effectiveness strategies for continuous improvement of resources and services
  •  Provide oversight of employees, including but not limited to: recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating employees working within the Women’s Resource Center.
  •  Lead in the development and interpretation of policies to ensure compliance with the University’s policies and regulatory requirements. 
  •  Maintains, monitors, and utilizes assessment tools to demonstrate effectiveness of programs established within the Women’s Resource Center.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned

 
Programming, Education and Outreach
  • Develop and guide program priorities based on best practices and national standards that encompasses topics around social justice, inclusion and diversity.
  • Lead new program initiatives and development that enhance the retention of students from admissions through graduation. 
  •  Provide direction for current and potential programming collaborations
  • Coordinate and assist in planning/scheduling a developed curriculum for educational presentations with on-campus constituents regarding programs. 
  • Provide appropriate resources, referrals, education, and advocacy for sexual conduct and for victims experiencing bullying, and other discriminatory activities.

 
Financial and Budgets
  • Oversee and assist with the facilitation of the scholarship program (approximately 180 scholars and over 13 funding sources), including relationships with students and donors.
  • Work with the associate director to complete funding reports as required by foundations and contractors annually or semi-annually as designated.  
  • Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential donors. 
  • Work closely with the Student Services Development Team to align fundraising priorities. This also includes identification and writing of grant applications.

 
Counseling and Client Services
  • Collaborate with the University Counseling Center to deliver direct support to clients through communication, collaboration, policy review and processes.
  • Provide oversight to the clinical services of the Women’s Resource Center
  • Coordinate services for students when appropriate by consulting with clinical team. 
  • Facilitate trainings on the principles of mental and emotional health and well-being to campus partners.

Problem Solving 
The problems and solutions encountered by this position vary depending on the area and structure of the department. This position frequently addresses problematic situations and often acts as a mediator or a negotiator. A major task for this position is to understand the needs of the students, clients and staff and determine what products and services should be provided to meet those needs. 
 
Comments 
The incumbent must be proficient in making daily operational decisions in assigned area to ensure compliance of current regulations and guidelines. 
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in the area of student affairs, higher education, social work or feminist/women’s/gender studies (or equivalent); eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.
 
Master’s degree in in the area of student affairs, higher education, social work or feminist/women’s/gender studies (or equivalent).
This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.
Department specific qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have at least three years of progressively responsible management experience, which includes budget development, administration and personnel management. The incumbent will have demonstrated knowledge and commitment to addressing issues affecting individuals experiencing gender marginalization (for example women, non-binary, trans, and gender non-conforming individuals) and leading social justice initiatives. The director will have experience in coordinating student services in higher education and show a demonstrated
commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
