This position is within the WHSC (Woodruff Health Science Center)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan for research informatics that aligns with the center's overall research and clinical goals.
  • Lead the research informatics team, setting clear objectives and measuring progress to ensure alignment with the center's mission.
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of informatics systems and tools that support the research community, including clinical trials management systems, electronic health records, and data repositories.
  • Ensure the interoperability of research systems with clinical and administrative systems to facilitate integrated care and research.
  • Engage and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of research data.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies related to research data, including HIPAA and IRB requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between the research community, IT department, and external partners to ensure the research informatics needs are effectively met.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to researchers in utilizing informatics tools and methodologies to enhance their research projects.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in research informatics and evaluate their applicability to the center's research objectives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging the exploration of new tools and techniques to advance research capabilities.
  • Lead and mentor the research informatics team, promoting professional development and excellence.
  • Manage resources and budgets effectively to support the strategic goals of the research informatics unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's in Bioinformatics, Health Informatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • PhD is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in research informatics or a closely related field, with a strong preference for experience in an academic medical center or healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing cross-functional teams and complex projects.
  • Deep knowledge of informatics systems and databases relevant to health science research.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with a strong understanding of research methodologies and statistical principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking capabilities, with a proven track record of driving innovation and change.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
