Job Summary
The Director of Research and Assessment in the Office of Instructional Excellence will assist the Vice Provost for Instructional Excellence in accreditation and reporting requirements and conducting and disseminating research related to student success in the classroom.
  • Research
    • Investigate challenges and opportunities on campus related to student success in the classroom at CSU.
    • Prepare findings of research around student success in the classroom to the Provost, Vice Provosts, Deans, and others.
    • Assist in communicating to the CSU campus and community the opportunities and challenges that are uncovered in the research projects.
  • Assessment and Accreditation
    • Provide support in the development and implementation of assessment (required for accreditation)
    • Assist individuals and groups to carry out and improve assessment practices in university-wide initiatives, including Core Curriculum and Student Success.
    • Assist faculty and staff to develop, improve, implement, and evaluate assessment activities in academic and non-academic areas, thus aligning with accreditation requirements, wherever applicable. Ensures continued campus compliance with NCA/HLC assessment requirements.
    • Provide support to colleges/school/units undergoing discipline-related accreditation.
    • Monitor progress of campus assessment programs by collecting, reviewing, and providing feedback via annual assessment reports.
    • Assist with the coordination of the preparation for re-accreditation by NCA/HLC.
  • Prepare periodic reports documenting assessment activities for internal and external audiences.
  • Assist in developing a cultural of continuous improvement processes that facilitates seamless collecting of data, recording changes, and submitting reports with the goal of continually improving student success.

This is a 12-month appointment (51% administrative) and will be reviewed each year with an anticipated three-year term.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Tenured Associate (including Clinical Associate) or Full Professor at CSU;
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching;
  • Understanding of and experience with assessment in higher education;
  • Demonstrated effort in educational research;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues of diversity and equity in higher education; and
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as oral/written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Record of research related to assessment of instructional excellence (including pedagogy and/or student learning);
  • Familiar with the use of both qualitative and quantitative research methods;
  • Previous leadership role(s) at department, college, or university levels;
  • Experience related to program/curriculum evaluation;
  • Ability to foster productive, collaborative relationships; and
  • Experience with disciplinary and/or institutional accreditation.
