Position Summary

With over sixty percent of the alumni base living outside of Colorado and thousands of parents and friends across the country and globe, successfully creating a highly engaged Global Network will partially be dependent upon our ability to build and sustain a cultivation strategy outside of Colorado. In order for the University of Denver to achieve a highly engaged global network, it is imperative that we strategically recruit, activate and partner with network leaders and volunteers in our communities. Moving away from a heavily staff-led model, we are embarking on a new volunteer and regional network configuration that will support and empower leaders within regional and interest-based networks to partner with University staff to build life-long engagement and philanthropy in our DU communities. This new effort will continue to strengthen DUs global network of supporters and ambassadors by engaging and training network leaders and volunteers across the United States and in select international markets to own and lead networks while aligning focus and priorities towards the University's upcoming campaign. Reporting to the Executive Director of Regional and Volunteer Engagement, the Director of Regional Engagement will have a primary focus on campaign-related engagement priorities and activities and will collaborate closely and frequently with the centrally-based Director of Volunteer Networks as well as the larger DU Advancement team and other colleagues across campus. Regular travel within the top regions is expected.

With a focus on all geo-based regions outside of Denver, the Director of Regional Engagement will guide strategy and execute engagement efforts of all alumni, families, parents and friends across the country and in select international networks as well as develop a programmatic portfolio for the regions in collaboration with Denver-based advancement team. Additionally, the incumbent will work closely with the Director of Volunteer Networks to identify and train network leaders who lead formal and informal networks of alumni and parent volunteers within different industries, locations, and affinity and interest communities. The Director's goal is to create a culture of lifelong engagement and volunteerism among constituents in the regional markets and networks that builds our pipeline for campaign philanthropy and long-term engagement for the University's Global Network.

The University of Denver is also unique in its academic portfolio, which boasts both a strong undergraduate experience as well as highly respected graduate and professional schools. Alumni identify with both the institution as well as their specific academic units within it, and the Director of Regional Engagement must be creative in their approach toward crafting engagement strategies that emphasize the intersection of those identities. The Director of Regional Engagement will partner closely with colleagues working within the specific schools, colleges, and units to align alumni engagement strategies for the regional networks.
