Department Summary
The University of North Texas at Dallas launched the Center for Socioeconomic Mobility through Education (CSME) in 2022. The CSME’s purpose is to accelerate socioeconomic mobility of individuals and communities based on the core belief that everyone should have the opportunity to achieve a living wage and thrive in vibrant neighborhoods.
The CSME works to serve this purpose by engaging in four roles. First, we conduct and synthesize research focused on southern Dallas County communities to generate actionable insights for programming and partnerships. Second, we identify, test, and scale impactful and sustainable socioeconomic mobility programs. Third, we partner with UNT Dallas faculty and staff on identifying innovation opportunities to improve student learning, graduation, and career outcomes. Fourth, we support collective capacity-building and systematic learning of community partners and CSME.
This vision aligns well with the broader work of the University of North Texas at Dallas. UNT Dallas is the only public university in Dallas, and the only university that focuses on urban Dallas students. Our student body is 85% Hispanic and African American, with a majority of first-generation students. Each day, we work together to develop pathways to socioeconomic mobility for our students and the southern Dallas communities we serve.
By providing affordable degree programs, partnering with community organizations, and providing educational and community programs, UNT Dallas is decreasing the economic disparity that exists for many. Creating new pathways to socioeconomic mobility today will empower, transform and strengthen our communities tomorrow.
UNT Dallas is part of the University of North Texas System, which includes three institutions: UNT Dallas, UNT Denton, and UNT Health Science Center. We are collectively driven by five core values: Courageous Integrity, Be Curious, We Care, Better Together, and Show Your Fire.
