Department Summary
HSC is dedicated to fostering a culture of assessment, continuous quality improvement, and evidence-based decision support.  The office of University Assessment and Accreditation does this by providing integrated expertise in three functional areas: outcomes assessment, accreditation, and planning and decision support.
Position Overview
The Director of Planning and Decision Support will display advanced knowledge of higher education metrics and institutional reporting requirements, including IPEDS, LBB, THECB, USN&WR. Possess strong skill set for qualitative and quantitative research methods, survey design and methodology, and data analysis and visualization. Demonstrate strategic thinking and analytical abilities, capable of organizing, prioritizing, and leading multiple projects to successful completions. Have the ability to maintain acute attention to detail as well as a keen understanding of broader perspectives. Demonstrate collaboration and communication skills and use software applications to generate reports and surveys, analyze data, and create meaningful data visualizations. Knowledge of current, complex higher education issues and trends and how they might impact the organization. Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate situations that impact the institution using multiple sources of information and the ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization, including senior leaders, and to provide exceptional customer service. Ability to clearly present data in narrative and graphical formats and to develop and deliver presentations for senior leaders and complete work in a timely manner with a high level of accuracy. Ability to reliably and consistently lead and perform tasks independently and as a team member and manage and coach others as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and seven (7) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience driving large analytic projects and programs to completion
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis and working with real time analytics
  • Knowledge of current, complex higher education issues and trends and how they might impact the organization
  • Advanced knowledge of survey design and methodology
  • Knowledge of Qualtrics or similar survey software
  • Knowledge of institutional research and reporting requirements, e.g., IPEDS, LBB, THECB, USN&WR
  • Ability to develop and use metrics to evaluate program success
  • Ability to access, analyze, and report both quantitative and qualitative data and create reports
  • Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills and knowledge of database development, data collection, and analysis
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate situations that impact the institution using multiple sources of information
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with individuals at all levels of the organization including senior leaders
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations for senior leaders
  • Ability to complete work in a timely manner with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to reliably and consistently perform tasks independently and as a team member
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups of individuals at all levels within and outside the institution and to provide exceptional customer service

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from regionally accredited institution in an appropriate discipline such as social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, statistics, or computer/information sciences;
  • Four years work experience in institutional research or closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm, with occasional weekends as required for business critical needs. Remote work available up to 3 days per week when projects and office traffic allow.

Job Duties


o
Oversee institutional data reporting, including compliance with state, federal and accrediting commissions, and university ranking/profile organizations (e.g., IPEDS, THECB, LBB, USN&WR).
o
Conduct and lead timely and accurate data and best practices research and integrated analysis for key performance indicators, ad hoc reports, and strategic projects that support institutional initiatives and requirements.
o
Provide decision support through utilizing UNT System official data platforms to deliver meaningful information in an appropriately accessible format and overseeing a defined system for ad hoc institutional data requests.
o
Interpret and analyze a variety of information and complex qualitative and quantitative data; draw conclusions and make recommendations; measure progress against established standards as needed.
o
Oversee the on-time completion of institutional statistical surveys relating to students, faculty, staff, and other internal and external constituents.
o
Collaborate with data owners and stakeholders to accomplish institutional reporting needs and to support institutional data integrity utilizing established data governance. Facilitate meetings with stakeholders of the organization around institutional data issues.
o
Maintain current technical knowledge and learns new techniques and approaches to strategic analysis and reporting through professional development activities.
o
Maintain advanced working knowledge of federal and state reporting policies, guidelines, and requirements and current higher education issues and trends, and how they might impact the university.
o
Supervise and evaluate team members to ensure the effectiveness and productivity of the team.
o
Oversee the designing, maintaining, and updating of the website for the department.
