Department Summary
The Principal Impact Collaborative at UNT Dallas is an innovative leadership program for North Texas school leaders. PIC was originally launched because our urban schools need to retain high-performing principals who create an environment where teachers want to stay and student learning thrives. Experienced principals need to be empowered and inspired to drive impact on their campuses. PIC seeks to provide the time and space for school and district leaders to grow and thrive.
Our program model is unique nationally in that our curriculum blends three key content areas to provide a “whole adult” approach to leadership development: transformative leadership, human centered design (aka design thinking) and personal resilience/well-being. Our model also provides an opportunity for participants to network and share best practices with like-minded peers, while incubating and executing a ‘big idea’ to drive impact on their campus. Our program’s core values are centered on respecting the individual leader and equipping them to have the confidence, skills, and resilience to lead successfully and generate sustained impact in their demanding roles.
The Principal Impact Collaborative program has housed at UNT Dallas since 2019, operating within the UNT Dallas Office of the President. Since the program’s inception in 2016, PIC has led three programs (Principal Fellowship, New Principal Academy, and Leadership Lab). These programs have supported over 325 school and district leaders across DFW, reaching over 12,000 teachers and 125,000 students in the metroplex. Our participants have high satisfaction with the program and have demonstrated significantly higher retention in role than peers after participating in the program.
During the current 2023-2024 school year, PIC manages its signature fellowship program for experienced principals through two cohorts, which support roughly 45 principals/leaders from Dallas ISD, Fort Worth ISD, Uplift Education, DeSoto ISD and Trinity Basin Preparatory, among other districts. This signature program supports high-performing leaders to drive innovation and impact on their campuses through the development of their campus projects, while also re-energizing leaders to sustain the role. Additional information about our signature program can be found on our website: www.principalimpactcollaborative.org

In the 2024-2025 school year, PIC will continue to serve experienced principals through our signature program. PIC is also developing customized pilot programs for partner school districts, which may include programming for principal supervisors, rising leaders, and some targeted professional development for school leaders, district leaders and campus teams. Additional partnerships and pilots will continue and evolve throughout the year as PIC continues to scale impact.
