Position Description

Core Program Oversight :

  • Provides oversight for our winter break and summer programs. Currently, these programs include the Mindich Service Fellowship Program, Harvard Clubs Summer Community Service Fellowship Program, the Arthur Liman Public Interest Law Fellowship Program, Fellows at the Forefront, Stad Fellows Program, Fong Family Winternship Program, internship placements with Harvard International Offices, and the SPARK program for pre-matriculated students.
  • Provides oversight for events related to public service careers, including Public Service Recruiting Day, the Public Interested Conference, and a series of non-profit board recruitment fairs that Harvard sponsors across the U.S.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of these programs and improve, replace, and/or create additional programs to meet the larger mission of the Center.
  • Will develop the Stad Fellowship program for 30-35 summer fellows and expand the department's connections to political work in collaboration with the Institute of Politics.
  • Manages the Assistant Director of Non-Profit Pathways and the Assistant Director of Political and Government Pathways

Community Partnership Oversight:

  • Develops and sustains over 300 community partnerships related to summer, winter break, and post-graduate programs. '
  • Collaborates with several departments on campus to support campus conferences and regionally-based partnerships and programs, such as nonprofit board recruitment fairs and graduate school networking nights.
  • Oversees communications in relation to programs that connect students to professional disciplines with a focus on community engagement.

Student Advising :

  • Advise students about professional pathways related to summer, winter break, and post-graduate work. This role is specifically charged with strengthening advising systems across departments.
  • Supports the development of discussion series content to guide student learning and reflection as needed.
  • Develops pathways for engaging incoming first-year students and students from underrepresented communities.
  • This role will also be involved with reading student applications and recommending candidates to our community partners.

Alumni Engagement :

  • The Director of Pathways to Practice is responsible for engaging alumni in conjunction with the Harvard Alumni Association and Harvard's Alumni Affairs and Development team. This role will involve donor stewardship.
  • This work will be supporting the Assistant Dean of Civic Engagement.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 7 years' relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

We are seeking dynamic and versatile candidates with strong problem-solving skills. Ideally, candidates will have a Master's Degree in a field related to community engagement and/or public service. We are seeking candidates with outstanding interpersonal skills who can work with a diverse array of constituencies. We are seeking candidates who have experience managing and supporting staff professional development. We are seeking candidates with strong organizational and time management skills. We are also seeking candidates who can manage relationships with strong attention to detail and discretion. Candidates who are familiar with developing programs and working with students will be given preference.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting using near vision use for reading and computer use for extended periods of time
  • Lifting (approximately 20 to 30 pounds), bending, and other physical exertion

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an office setting
  • May be required to work nights and weekends
